Rooting hormone during veg?

You think it's just plant a seed, root a clone and go. But no, this is a really badass hobby with the sort of options for complexity or simplicity that call to a brother like me.

So far I've learned from the sativa soldiers on this site that LST will help me greatly. I've taken your help to heart and spent a few hours making LST bucket lids to get this thing right.

Since asking this community for help, I've cut my light from the 24/0 that the clone guy recommended to 18/6, since scientific studies suggest that plants can't really use more than 17.5 hours of photosynthesis. Guru shit. Stuff that took y'all years to learn. Stuff that's helping me to make this first MMMP grow a successful one.

I've learned that top make this first harvest successful, a little more veg time won't hurt. I plant to wait it out a bit. Your instruction has been crucial. Hard work with no real direction is worthless. You gave mine direction.

So many of the folks here have inspired me to think in completely different directions. Thanks for that.

I'm winding up most of my veg questions (I think), and I have this one:

Most everyone seems to believe that MORE ROOTS = MORE YIELD all other things being equal. Does root hormone added to the nutes during watering seem like it would help in this area? What about DWC? Should root hormone be added to the water or not?

What I mean is..if it develops roots faster with root hormone..does that mean faster "to flower" time? Does it mean same "to flower time" with better yield? OR..does it just mean more chance of a plant becoming root bound before flip time arrives?

No. Rooting hormone is for rooting. Then there are Root stimulators for use after the plants/cuttings are rooted. Good luck. -granger

Thanks for the response, granger.

The reason I ask is because I'm on a tight budget this first grow and I'd like to make double use of my rooting hormone if I can. I have plenty.

I got the idea of using rooting hormone as a root growth stimulator from this article:

https://ag.arizona.edu/yavapai/anr/hort/byg/archive/vitaminb1androotstimulators.html

"Some products are marketed as root stimulators. While these products often list vitamin B-1 as an ingredient, they may also contain auxins and/or fertilizers. Common auxins are indole butyric acid (IBA) and naphthylacetic acid (NAA). These are common ingredients in “rooting compounds” sold by retail garden and horticultural suppliers and are excellent for propagating cuttings. IBA has had some success in root regeneration in transplanted trees and some evidence indicates that it may redirect resources to the roots by suppressing crown growth."

So I'm thinking..rooting hormone = root growth stimulator.:dunno:

Apparently not. If there's a fairly good budget root stimulator y'all know of, I'm all ears.

what G said...

I like Canna Rhizotonic for root stimulation, I hear good things about H&G Root excel and Bio Bizz root juice as well...though I never tried them...

20 hours of light beats 18 in my garden... I don't care what some scientist says..... several comparisons have been made over the years ...20 is the number for me....yeehaw

All the root stimulators mentioned so far work well. I've had really good results with Gen. Org. BioRoot. It's cheap. Good luck. -granger

I've looked up what IBA does exactly, its an acid (which the "A" stands for) which eats little holes in the skin of the stem at the microscopic level and tells the plant "make roots here". I dont know how dosing your roots in this would help make the roots grow bigger. I'm skeptical.

yes they work....but the deal is making these 'tricks' work for you, no point in wanting to grow roots if you are in SOG? or any pot for that matter, see them for what they are tiny separate methods for squeezing out.. yet more yield from your grow, often when the horse has long left the barn ....lol
better to spend time working on your grow method

Good info. Everyone. Amanda, I'm growing DWC in 5 gallon buckets with snap on basket lids that I've modified for LST.

I recently took a header off of an unfinished balcony into an unfinished staircase:yoinks:, shattering my wrist and my elbow.

The lack of work has made my budget for everything pretty tight right now.

With a 250W MH at 4200K and 14 daylight/softwhite 23w CFLs surrounding it on a home built hood/reflector. I'm guess-timating about 600W? Could be less in final output..it's what I could scrape up out of parts, spare cash and trades.

I need to have enough bud from this plant to take care of all of my needs 'til the following harvest two months later.

For this grow anyway, total yield is much more important to me than turn around time or gram per watt. I just want a large yield from each plant.

I was thinking of ScrOG'ing each plant as they come through. Getting the routine down to where my harvest is consistently high yield and high quality is my ultimate goal and that's why I appreciate everyone's input to think about. Can't go wrong taking in what the weed masters have to say..

Anyone heard of Regeneroot? BTW Granger, at US$40 a gallon, BioRoot's the cheapest I've seen root stimulator! Great find.
