Root trimming....Benefits???

I am wondering during transplanting is it advantageous to trim the roots a bit to expand root growth?

Not a novus grower but I wondered if this might grow a bigger root ball.

thanks,

i root trim my mothers and any plant i reveg but wouldnt do it want transplanting cause it stresses the plant and it takes the plant about a week to get back to normal growth

Remove the bottom 1/4 inch off the root ball, and graze the sides of the root balls with a knife, or lightly loosen the roots on the outer edge of the ball with clean hands. This is not a myth, it works. The roots that are loosened from the root ball venture away from the root ball and into the new soil much much easier than if they where left completely intact, and growth up top reflects growth down below. Do this, and you will be smiling wide

i just break open the root balls and try to lay the roots out flat a bit. i do trim roots when i transplant from cuts whose roots got too big in the cloner though.
