Root pruning question

CannaRed

Cannabinerd
I have a plant in a 5 gal fabric pot for way too long. I've been having problems getting her clones to root.
The plant is still growing but with hardly internodal space, and stems are harder. Is this "lignification" of cannabis?

I'm thinking that the plant is growing this way because it's rootbound.

I'm thinking of removing from pit and cutting sides and bottom of root ball and then replanting. Unfortunately it has to go back in same size pot, I don't have anything bigger right now.

This is my only copy if this plant so I don't want to mess her up.

Any tips?
In other plants I've heard to cut the plant way back about two weeks prior to pruning the roots.
I have done this.
Now I'm just double checking with the community that I'm making the correct decision.

Thanks guys!
