room smell removal

Hey everyone i just started my first grow 2 months ago and i have it going in the basement of my house in a room that is about 6' x 14'. I have 9 plants under a 400w hps. They are about 30 days into flowering. The plants are just sitting in the open room which cannot be sealed very well so smell is getting out. They are not in a cab. What is the best way to de-odorize the the whole room? Im kinda on a budget so im looking for the cheapest method possible. thanks for the input.

I have not looked thru IC Mag's DIY List much, you should for sure. I forked out the cash and got the 199.95 (They have a 4" that is cheaper) deal at HTG Supply found here GrowBright 6" Inline Fan & Charcoal Filter Combo.

I eventually canned the fan and just got the 6 In. 110VAC 250CFM In-Line Duct Fan from home depot. It's as near silent as any fan i've heard. I hooked it up to a dimmer switch and it is silent now. Pulls enough air to keep my 9 plants smell free.

Like I said, this fan above was LOUD and more than I needed for sure... just make a filter, stick a cheap fan on it and put it right next to your plants. no ducting needed really...

You have options though, don't let me choose for ya.

I agree somewhat with what NiceShoes has to say; you can probably eliminate most of your odor problems by circulating air with an inline fan, carbon filter combo.

One thing that you want to take into consideration, however, when using a carbon filter in this manner, that you will need to have a greater amount of CFM to acheive the circulation you desire.

When exhausting, you want the air to move rather slowly over the carbon in the filter so that it has more contact time with the carbon so that the smell is sure to be removed before it can be detected.

When scrubbing, however, you want all the air in the room to get cleaned. You therefore want to probably get an 8 inch fan such as a can fan RS8HO and set it atop of the appropriate sized filter (the can filters have ratings on the front of the packaging that helps you pair the two up)

So, in other words, since you are scrubbing, get the biggest fan your budget allows!

If you're worried about sound, throw a duct muffler on one of these can fans. You will be amazed how well these mufflers work!!

I would simply enclose your grow and make a scrubber
If you don't want to make a scrubber, I've seen them eBay...

my buddy who is also on a budget went to walmart got an aquarium bubbler for $8, tubing for $1.50 and liquid potpourri for $1, then filled a bucket half way with water, then dumped in some of the liquid potpourri, put the tube into the bucket, it covers the smell but doesn't really remove it,carbon scrubber will do that but can be pricey

I know people always knock me when i say this but it works. Simply put a bucket by the door and fill with pinesol. Buy at $1 store and get 5-10 bottles. Every 5 days replace. Also put an airstone in bucket. Your room will smell clean. I use in my house and have people over all the time because like you im growing openly in a single room. No one ever says anything except how clean my house is!

I use ona as an oder control supplement in a five gallon bucket during harvest.

put a computer fan on the lid of the five gallon bucket, drilled numerous 1" holes 5" from bottom of bucket. fill with 1 part ona, 10 parts water add some liquid absorbing stuff I got at ace hardware that turns it all into gel. lasts 2 months @ 2" thick. add water as it dries out

the grow tent has a scrubber to a 6" vortex venting to attic

i like the pinesol idea too, cheap, but if it doesnt work your freedom is worth WAY more than 300 for a scrubber
good luck and let us know how it works please

Hey Johnny Blaze, after some messing around we found that essential oils work best with the bubbler, we took a glade plug-in and took the top off , poured the scented oil in with some water in the bubbler and it works great. There is a thread here on the forums about a Pinesol bubbler and some people said it was not a good idea because on phenols, the off-brand or generic type pinesol had "use in well ventilated area" on it, so maybe pinesol is not the ticket.
