This may be pointless without pictures, but I'm going to try to describe what is going on, until I can get a digital camera.
I have two plants at 18 days into flowering. One is a "Chocolope" that is around 3 months old, in a large pot. The other is "MK Ultra" in a small pot that was a seedling when I joined it with the bigger plant in my 12/12 cab. They are under a 100W HPS with two shop lights on one side. The grow medium is FF OF and perlite (3-1). I use tap water. I was advised to not use any nutes or additives whatsoever, even in flowering, just sticking with the nutrients in the ocean forest all the way through. Well, I decided that a little Big Bloom couldn't hurt. It looks like I was wrong. About a week after switching to 12/12 I added Big Bloom to my water according to the directions on the bottle. "We recommend a first feeding using 1/2 cup per gallon of water and follow with 4 tbsp. per gallon every watering." I have watered 3 times using the Big Bloom and here is what's going on....
The tips of most of the leaves point down. Many of the leaves curl downward widthwise, if that makes sense. At a quick glance at some of the leaves, it just looks like they are really skinny. But a closer look shows that they look skinny because they are "rolled." Difficult to describe, I really need to get a camera.... the leaves aren't turning yellow or dying off, YET... they aren't flat, they are rolling. the leaves stick straight out except for the curling at the very tips... but some of the leaves are curling downward width wise.... they look like hollowed out cigars that you are about to put weed in.
I wasn't afraid to use the Big Bloom because it's organic and I thought it was a well rounded fertilizer that could be used by beginners who didn't want to mix many different things together. I thought that using it alone would be adequate.
I have not tested the PH at all. I just assumed that I wouldn't have any PH issues in FFOF and with tap water. I thought that if I wasn't adding anything there wouldn't be any cause for abnormal PH. Of course, now I want to test it immediately. Where can I buy the PH paper strips and how do I use them to test the soil?
I just watered the day before yesterday with BB added. Since my best guess it that the BB is causing the rolling leaves, I will not be adding any of it to my water again, until maybe my plants seem like they're hungry late in flowering, I don't know. My immediate question is should I flush out the pots as soon as possible even though they don't need water? Wouldn't that be over watering? I'm worried that there's a buildup of whatever's in the BB that's causing this and that I need to flush it out sooner than later. I assume the rolling/crinkling/twisting leaves won't flatten when I fix the problem with the PH or nute build up or whatever. So only new growth will look better. Going on 3 weeks into flowering will there be new fan leaves? Are the buds not going to turn out well due to this issue?
Last question... say I fail to correct this issue and the plant starts to die by week 4.... will the only thing I can do with the plant be cooking it into some oil? I'm guessing it would be way to premature to even think about smoking what's there... as of now, there is nothing I would begin to call buds... just little formations of white pistils... I'm just curious... is there any potency in the little pre bud formations, that you could dry and smoke if the plant dies? I'm sure I sound like a complete novice, haha. Just trying to get an idea of how much some rolling leaves can ruin this sizeable investment.
