Rockwool clones,,, planting into soil.

I did a lil bit of looking around found abit of info on othersites, id like to get some IC members advice.

I always cloned in jiffy plugs or per/verm mixes,
shortly im going to receive some clones in rockwool just have a couple of questions.

ive heard rockwool can cause damping. obvisouly I have to cut the outa plastic shell of before I plant. should I plant the cube at the soil line or just below.

also in regards to watering, any concern to be careful the few few weeks, I usually run a pretty light mix so I can water usally every couple of days.,, should I hold back a little until the roots are properly established.

so really is there anything to worry about or just treat em like my normal clones

thanks ~hg

i would plant the cube in the soil. Roots will come out from all sides. They do hold a lot of water so I would water around the circumference of the pot and not directly around the stem.

Rockwool doesn't cause damping off, an overly wet environment does. It is easy to run into these conditions with RW so the problem is associated with the medium.

I would not feed plants without established roots, just water.

I dont think it is going to be much different than any other medium. Avoid overwatering, soggy media, over fertilizing and over anything really.

I just got done cloning into 1.5" rockwool cubes that i put into solo cups with dirt for a couple weeks till they are nice and hearty. Rockwool is nice because it will hold water near the tender stock while it is first starting to root. but at the same time breath. I really like them or the root plugs. Works fantastic!

thanks for the advice. never had issues in the past with too wet mediums, damping ect. was mainly worried the RW holding to much moisture close to the stem as you mentioned ron.

primal glad to hear.

as usual I worry too much,,
thnx again,

cheers ~HG
