Regardless of some people's personal issues with some of the Breeder's Choice team, it is a very sad loss to the community when knowledgeable and passionate breeders no longer feel welcome.
I have never done business with Breeder's Choice though I have accompanied them since their creation, and though the seed releases had been limited up 'til now, I still had a great respect for the knowledge and the high standards that Breeder's Choice championed. The attitude of Breeder's Choice vis-a-vis the current cannabis seed market modus operandi was refreshing and long overdue. With few exceptions, seeds today are sold at unnecessarily high prices with very limited transparency as to their genetic makeup, and Breeder's Choice seemed intent on changing this.
Precisely because cannabis is an illegal plant in our over-industrialized and over-populated world today, we should strive to preserve the sanctity of real knowledge and real information about the plant's characteristics and varieties, and prioritize the accurate labeling and widespread sharing of distinct genetics. I saw Breeder's Choice making an effort to do this and was encouraged that they may even be willing to sacrifice a little of their bottom line to ensure things were done right.
I hope that zamalito and HotHouseFlowers will continue to participate in these forums as their loss would be a grave one for our movement. It is made all the sadder by the fact that money, hearsay, and petty rivalries seem to be what precipitated this outcome. The people who are fortunate enough to have the resources necessary for large-scale open pollinations (ie 'preservation') should be united as one considering the legal threats and moralistic monsters that we all collectively face.
That's all I have to say.
