Rhino Filters

Hi anybody use a Rhino filter? I've just got one for my 1st grow and was wondering whats with the furry thing that came with it? do I wrap it around the filter? or do I leave it alone?

Could it be the pre-filter? Sometimes they come with filters you put on the other side of the fan to keep out dust and things like that
