African herbman, where are situated? Are there any local strains in your part of the world?

Hi Thule,

I'm situated in Gauteng, South Africa. To be honest, I don’t know of, or if there is, any naturally local strains from around here. It would be nice to find out actually.
All the local African stuff seems to come from outside South Africa, Does anyone know if there is local strains from South Africa?

I agree with both Ganico and bonecarver_OG, it would be awesome to have a thread dealing specifically with growing sativas and keeping them small. Nice one motaco!

Sweet old pic there Raco!

Regards,
Ah

Hell yeah, that's the best idea for a thread I've heard in a while. Definitely hope to see it going soon
Fully agree. I'm not that much of an expert though, just trying to bring into practice what's been going around in my head. I guess I'm a mad scientist lol... :D

As far as growing in soil in small pots, that would probably turn into a thread similar to a hydro thread. When the pots have filled with roots there's basically no medium left... I'd be glad to add some of my experiences of course. I started growing in way too small pots by accident, but I've persisted trying it ever since. Here's a Skunk#1 from '94 to prove my clumsiness. :D

yes that was something I was gonna address. daily light tea feedings. boy you want to talk about a soil-less grow. lol. you can call ours medium-less grows after a few months. just a goddamn dirty rootball.

....Despite that I won't stop posting pics of my lost souls....

Heh,your "lost souls" look great and remind me of my old outdoor growing days.If I didn't top'em they could reach 10' or better, making it easier for the national guard spotters to see.I've had more than one plot raided because of greed,Lol.
On the subject of small pots and sativas,I usually only use 2 litre pepsi bottles and occasionly a 3 litre.I hardly have spectacular yeilds, but that is a sativa thang,ya know. But,the old saying seems to be true, the larger the root system, the larger the bud.

But I have grown out seedlings from the same bud in different sized pots and saw no difference,so it could be strain specific, who knows?
Peace

Hola!!!

First...

Thanks for everyone for the compliment couple pages back

@motaco: I really do think we should do that tutorial for keeping plants small when grown in limited spaces.

In fact, I have started to take pics of one Nev´s Haze plant which I do some( :D ) training. I am going to explain it thoroughly. It´s not rocket science if I can do it...

Other thing I do is that I veg them plants in 3 L pot´s and transplant them usually week after inducing 12/12 / whateva flowering cycle, or alternatively just before starting it!

Here´s pic of Marijuamat´s Original Haze x Malawi Gold, only one of the two beans did germ, but I have had bad experiences with seeds this summer, so let´s not make too much of conclusions about that.. This one bean I planted did take some time and I dig it up only to see that there was tap root & seedling seperately. Seed had opened it´s first leafs under coco and splitted out of the taproot :jawdrop:

Seriously, I have never seen the same, kind of cool because it has freshed up after it did make up :D I didnt put it right under 12/12 because of this episode.

Here it is, Original Haze x Malawi Gold:

And some dryshot´s for the OH x SK#1 lovers:

These ^^ pics dont really make right to the nugs, but I can better ones some day, in while = zoom..

Cool pic Raco, jejeje!!!! Or how do you guys say it? (thge jejeje thing;) Damn, im so high!!

Nice job with the Ecuadorians Mad Scientist!!! You guys really did make me smile with hardhat22 :D

Some of my Thai-Tanics look like they have leprosy or some crap. Kinda stunted and leaves are clubby :cuss: The others are growing like mad :joint:

motaco what are some of the better sativas that are avilable from the seed banks?

alot of the strains you guys are showing and talking about. your getting from your area or were gifted to you.
dont get me wrong there awesome. but i want a really great sativa so it would have to be from one of the seedbanks.

would like something with very high ceiling energetic little or no body happy yeild and flower time not an issue.

was thinking of something from ace or reeferman what do you think of there sativas?
any info welcome.

ACE is a great place to consider, just picked up a pack of their OT1-Haze.
Check out their forum, there's a very informative thread there on the OT1 Haze.
Also something I picked up that I'm excited about, is DJ's F-13, mostly sativa.

Also, Breeder's Choice have many exciting landrace offerings, but they are no longer affiliated w/ SB. They are out there tho if you have a good Eye.

Hope this helps! Peace, HL

Neville’s haze. I have no grow experience with this strain, but based on what a lot of people have said about growing it and the effects the high gives, I think this would do you well. If you look back through the thread, I’m sure you’ll find some good examples of Neville’s haze.
Herbalistic has some good pics of nev’s haze worth checking out if you interested.
As far as I know, it’s a greenhouse seed company strain.
Just my 2 cents,
Cheers.

yea highlighter i no ive read the oth tread thats there offering that im most interested in.
unfortunatly they dont offer the oth at any of the seedbanks.

african herbman thanks for the reply. yea ive definatly considered nevils haze.
only prob is mr nice dont have it in stock and havent for a very long time.
and i dont no if i want to trust greenhouse seeds as alot of peeps really rip on arjan.

Does anyone have any experience with "Arjan's Haze #3"?? Hows the smoke/high and is it really as good as they say for indoors?

I personally don't know much about arjans haze. I know alot of people call him a pollen chucker though. his youtube grows are very pretty but any asshole with enough seeds and the ability to take the one nice cut out of a hundred shitty plants can make their breeding facility look good.

@ barney. yeah if you never had one it sounds like you need a real haze pheno. like I said before there are a million haze hybrids you just have to grow a hybrid and find the pheno you want. might be out of jack herer, ssh, nl haze, sk haze, etc. they also have the potential to yield pretty well unlike most sativas.

I've never tried ace but based off of who they are run by I trust them more than I trust most seed banks. I am a BIG fan of reeferman genetics however I haven't even looked at his stock in several years. when I was growing his beans you could buy individual beans and he had like thirty strains and constantly new shit popping up. now he moved and I understand his selections aren't like that anymore, so I really can't speak for RM stock within the last 3 yrs. but I've had some really memorable strains come through him that I miss quite a bit.

As for us growing gifted and regional strains I think that is just kinda one of those weird things that group people. The way kush threads always seem to be so full of ego over the strength and purity of their strain it turns into an argument and gets shut down. It seems many sativa growers share the same mentatlity and seem to be captivated by the idea of a unique strain coming from some far off exotic land. The jungles of colombia or the congo. whatever. if the seeds were easy to get I think it'd lose some of the mystique. lol. I think we like the idea of being holders of exotic elusive strains.

so where are you from? do you not have access to sativas?
