Restarting cannabis as we know it

Dumb story- the fire alarm in our building went off tonight. Everyone evacuated, no one hurt- turned out to be a false alarm.

But everyone but me came out to the parking lot with something in hand. Some had a laptop and waited in their cars. Some had hand bags. Something.

Like a fucking idiot, I didn't grab the seeds. The lifeblood of everything I do in this world, the thing I care about most, I left the seeds in the fridge. It wasn't serious this time but I treated it lax. When the alarm went off, I checked that it wasn't my tent on fire and then put my phone in pocket and got downstairs. Any fire chief will tell you I did the right thing, I guess. But I had time- I could've saved every seed no problem.

I told my friend about it and we got this discussion going- what seeds are in your bug out bag? Do you save the rare stuff or the good stuff?

Or in a real fucked up scenario, what do you need to restart cannabis as we know it? My first suggestions were haze related. O haze, A5 haze, Tom Hill haze, maybe deep chunk for breeding purposes.

What would you include in your bug out bag if you had to restart cannabis tomorrow? What are the things essential to bringing about good varieties and hybrids if you only had the bare essentials at hand? One Afghanica, one haze, one landrace/regional, etc... Thoughts?

My thought after reading your post: How many millions of seeds you have?

Because it sounds like there is too much for you to just grab and carry?

My seed collection, which is several hundred seeds big, and I know its not huge but we are talking dozens upon dozens of packs, and that fits in a ziploc that I could easily put in a small womans handbag or inside a cap (just to give you an idea of the size of it, not doing such), or in your jeans back pocket with a bit of cramming in.

Sounds like your collection is so big that you need to make the "most valuable seed" stash separate from the others you cannot fit along, and then you only grab that and let the others burn?

But your question I guess is more about the "breeding cannabis from scratch" viewpoint, rather than my practical "WTF HOW BIG IS YOUR STASH BRO" view :D

In that case I guess one would need to grab a bag with some as pure as possible sativas and as pure as possible indicas and then after rebreeding cannabis into the world become the next cannabis seed kingpin. :)

Have you run into the idea of a grex?

Basically, take the most diverse set of plants you can get, and let 'em loose in the mother of all seed-making orgies. Then just bulk them and (optionally) start advancing them through a few generations of open pollination.

If I had room for a single film canister full of seeds, on a one-way trip to a habitable planet, I'd want it to be a grex made with a focus on including as many unique and/or different types as possible.

I mean, on New Earth, do you really want a haze thread? :bigeye:

Ma vote is wi zif, that's probably what ah'd do.

Actually, am doin an open pollination of a pack of ace tropical mix as soon as ah can be bothered tae pop some seeds, so that's probably what ah'd take if pushed.
If ah had a bit more time ah'd also take pure lines of zamaldelica, OT haze an maybe Panama for the sativas, an a indica focused mix like mandalas safari mix or Mr Nice dreamtime. Or, at the very least, ma own Afghan lines - 3 different crosses.

But if it's "grab one pack or die" it would be the sativa mix - ah could just spend a lifetime workin lines out of that mash up.

Clone only rare strains may be difficult to replace, but can't you get anything you want from a seedbank if needed?
