reservoir changes

This is my second dwc. The first dwc was one container (5 gallon bucket). This run is a rubbermaid 20 gallon container. With the first run I changed the res weekly. This time I only changed the res completely before I flipped. I actually flushed for 3 days then I refilled-so 2 changes.

My question is: do I have to change the reservoir again? Can I get by not changing it without any problem? Currently I am doing add backs between 2 and 3 gallons daily. The container I am using only 'takes' 17 gallons. Everything seems alright but will my plants benefit from my laziness?

Thanks

Just watch the plants if everything is rolling along fine then I would just leave it and monitor PH and EC. Keep it topped up and you should be fine. At the first sign of trouble then you may want to change up. Your taking less of a chance with changing every week but it's really not necessary.

Just an update: I have gone about 16 weeks with only 2 reservoir changes and everything is going quite well. Take a look at my album, round 3.

I have found it is dependent on the nutes you are using. If I run GH 3 part I can get away without changing out at all in veg and only changing out for flush of bloom res. But like DWS said...if you are having a problem change res. Other nutes I have run "need" to be changed every 10 to 14 days..or they will hurt you!!

That's the beauty of hydro...when in doubt, change it out.

Good luck.
