required upgrades

Is the house strictly for gowing? will there be anything else such as fridge, lights, tvs running?

I think for that much, you need an electrian or get some electrical knowledge because there will some wiring to do

It would be good to know what you have before we can tell you what you need to upgrade. You will need a panel that can provide 150 amps if running 120. You also need to plan for AC, pumps etc

Don't even waste your time thinking about using 120v on a 16k setup...it's a massive waste IMO.

For your main feed for the lights, a 100a/240v circuit to a subpanel in the room will take care of it. That's gonna need to be ran with 4/2 wire if you're only using it for 240v lights. If you want 120v available from the subpanel, you'll need to use 4/3 wire.

Are you running a seperate AC for the grow or using a central AC? If you're going to run an AC of that subpanel, you'll probably need to run a 150a/240v circuit to it on 1/2 or 1/3 wire.

Really, if you're even contemplating something this big you should have done all this homework already...

your right around 70 a in lighting at 240v.
being you'll be running these lights for a min. of 12 hrs a day, its classified a continuos load.
you can't go over 80% of your sub panel breaker size.
so 100 a sub with a continuos load would be no higher than 80a total allowed.
you can swing it if your under 10a of juice per leg in 120v stuff (fans, pumps, etc)
so your pretty much right there.
you won't have enough juice to expand this grow down the road.
most residential panels don't have push in breakers higher than 100a.
you might have to get your service size increased and possibly have 2 main breaker panels in your house.
if you don't know jack about elect, hire yourself a sparky before you set up your grow.
make up some b.s. story why you need this done, tell him you have some metal working equipment, like welders.

Greetings SmokeNdaHammock.

Now I am well aware of how infectious cultivating can be. I know how exciting it can be, as well. I understand the psychology behind the desire to improve, to go bigger, to be the best. It is not my intent to 'ruffle your feathers' or 'burst your bubble', but it has been my experience that the individuals who are capable of successfully running a 16 kilowatt operation, don't need advice on how to set up a 16 kilowatt operation.

Take this in the spirit in which it is meant: you're not ready.

In this industry, experience counts. Contemplate a 6 kilowatt operation. As you gain the necessary skill set, a step up to the larger operation will be much smoother.

Keep dreaming, but root your dreams in the medium of reality. Experience then becomes like a good fertilizing regimen. Meticulous planning becomes like a proper growing environment. A bit of good luck becomes like the proper spectrum of light. These then combine to the harvest of your dreams.

Sincerely,
Charles.

p.s. Let me provide you with a reference for my concern: Every individual that I am aware of that went too big, too quickly, now possess criminal records and debt.

C.X.

there will be items such as a fridge and tvs but most power will be used by lights/fans/AC. how many amps is each light goin to use?
im not doin the electric work myself btw but i need to know what needs to be installed.

Your sparky should know all this already. Just tell him what equipment you'll be using, easy to design and build a LoadCenter for 16 lights. I build custom loadcenters, I have some pix of a 16 ballast and 24 ballast loadcenter, with multi-timer or PLC to handle the timed equipment.

Best Regards

Charles,
Thanks for the lecture, but it is unneeded. I am well aware what im doing and the consequences. Also, i surround myself with experience b/c, like you said, exp goes a long way.

you are going to have to get a service upgrade.
you don't have enough juice to run your grow + other household appliances.
