repoting

I soaked 11 bag seeds. I got 6 plants now at day 14 (5 did not come up). I plan on growing a scrog under 150w hps. I don't want to re-pot until I can sex them. I'm looking daily now with a jewelers loupe. I want to cut the tops also but not till I know the sex. I/m guessing maybe 10 more days for sex and then clip...bend...and 12/12 when screen is 80% full. does anyone see a flaw in my plans or have info to make it easier? this is technically my first grow as my real first grow was just a learning tool for me.

Well. Some people have technic to tell after the first 10 days of sprouting. I do not know how accurate it is. I cut my own clones and only can confidently tell what I have after week 2 of flowering.
Search google for 10 day technic if you'd like but usually it is during flowering when most of us can tell

Good luck

You running 18/6? Depends on genetics. never heard of the 10 day thing.
you can top now if you want. It will slow that vertical growth down..
if there still not showing in a 2 weeks or so just drop that light to 14/10 for a couple days.

I practice telling on the second week of 12/12
10 days sounds pretty inaccurate if u ask me. But it's out there :)

You are planning to determine gender before the plants flower? It would certainly save a lot of time and resources if it were possible. How do you do it?

Sometimes, in veg, it can take months for a plant to show female, or male. Even then once you flower them out you may find out you have some lady-boys. :)

I've read bunches of post on male/female identification. many say 2 weeks and start seeing signs---a female having a pear shape with a tip...one guy says the tip is like the rubber thingy on the end of a toothbrush. others say the male will have a crab claw instead of the pear shape and tip. I am looking (through a jewelers loupe) now and seeing 6 plants, all female. reality there is they're still too young. I guess worse case is after the male shows, I can clip it and watch the affected limbs die in the scrog, and them fish them all out.

the six plants are in small 3" cups and I know they need moving to a big pot. if I truly have 6 females. my closet grow area may be too small. I was hopping for 4 plants to share the light.

Well. If that's the case, you will probably be 100 percent sure when you switch. When it turns you have all girls, you, have a decision to make.

Pretty sure that's 2 weeks after 12/12. My standard procedure is to start a seed. When it's old enough to top, I do so and root what I cut off. Lot of times I'll top and root again. That leaves me 4 plants from the same seed before any see 12/12. Gives me the option of putting the twice topped plant into the flower room if I am starting a new run. Otherwise I can stick any of the plants under 12/12 for 2 weeks and see what I have.

You'll get tired of doing this if you start every plant from a seed. Final product is too unpredictable that way.

thanks guys. I've been searching more and finding more pics. I really think I'm going to sex in two more weeks as they are 17 days in dirt right now. I also read that small pots will crowd the roots, making them show sex earlier.

That's going to work if they are autoflowering strains.I've got mothers that are 6 months old that aren't showing sex. If you don't know if you are growing autoflowering strains, you're better off treating them as if they aren't.

It can go one way or another its all strain and enviroment.some strains show preflowers 2 weeks in while others are slower.Ive heard it said that once the plant shows preflowers in veg she is sexually mature enough to flower great discussion!

I've not seen the preflowers yet but also not down looking through the loupe. currently trying to fill the screen. I do not want to over water but the plant seems to grow better after I water with a little miracle gro houseplant food...8-7-6. I'm watering every 4 days now--about a liter each time.

If you have mothers that are not showing sex how do you no they mothers and not dads  ? You can quite easily sex plants in veg by looking at pre flowers from 3 weeks onwards ,normally you should be able to sex them all between 3 and 6 weeks , so if you have 6 month old plants that are not showing sex i think you need to do some more reading :)

A plant will NOT show sex in veg until sexually mature (about a month plus old).

So,you have two options.

1) Wait it out until plants are sexually mature.

2) Set up another area that's light tight with a few fluoro's and take cuttings and either root under 12/12 or root with 18/6 or 24 hour lighting until rooted and then cut photoperiod to 12/12 and the clones will show sex.

If going the clone route,be sure to take atleast two cuttings from each plant (to assure rooting) and label each cutting to it's respective parent,i.e;

Parent/Donor plant 1 and cutting 1a and 2a

Parent/Donor plant 2 and cutting 1b and 2b etc.

I find that plants that are sexually mature begin to flower faster, and yeild better.

A plant will show signs of sex about wk 4 from seed.
Its dumb and a waiste of time and space to pre-sex a plant. By the time you can take a few cuts and root and sex them, the vegging plants will be showing you what it is.
Just be patient. T/P them to bigger pots once they show sex.
Easy-done!

just always grow more seeds then u need .. if reg seeds do 2 times as many seeds as u want females.. and for fem seeds do like 5 extra just incase..

for clones. do about 25% more then ull need.. and then pick the best more vigorous and faster rooting clones for flower..

keepin more plants and getting rid of the weak will help overall harvests,. its easier to keep a plant healthy then to get a sick plant back to full strength.. especially because a lot of stress will cause a hermi .

so my screen is full and I'm 5 days into 12/12. I was adjusting limbs a few minutes ago and broke a piece. I trimed the end into a nice long scarf cut, dipped into a dry hormone powder and tuck it into a water soaked rockwool cube. it's under 2CFL's (24/0)and if it lives, I've got my eye on two more shoots that I will also try to clone. so my question is, how long will it take to determine if the rooting took? I don't want to cut another if it don't work.

You will have better luck rooting that cut with less light. If you give it too much light it will try to grow more leaf instead of roots. One 13 watt cfl about a foot or more away from the cutting would be plenty enough light.
