Remote camera system recommendations please

I want a simple, inexpensive 2-4 color camera system so I can take a peek through a pc or TV. I do not want wireless. 50' cable run max is needed. Seems like X10 is the best way to go for $129 for 4 color cameras hooked to a TV but what's the deal with the wireless tranceiver? If the cameras are hard wired why? It does come with a remote camera controller so guess that's what it's for but no way no how do I want some neighbor to be able to tune into my channel...heh heh. I got an extra pc so can hook to that also.

Thanx in advance for the suggestions/input...

Get this program. I have 4 cams hooked up to my computer and they all run through this program. I can check live feed from any where even my cell phone. In fact it's become kind of a habit to check it quite often. If you can afford this and have a good computer with high speed connection then it's the way to go. I have been using it for 2 years now. It only records when motion happens.

How do you know someone bit the dust just because they decided, for whatever reason, to delete their account?

bit the dust

Its just an expression, I didnt mean to imply that anything had happened. I was just surprised as he had a pretty high post count and was active up intil a few days ago.

DOH! I just saw that mountain is gone as well.

1) Why you want to use wireless, the price you want to spend can only buy some analog wirelss Video transferer or receiver. However, it provide other guy to view your video silently because they can use same freq as yours.
2) If you want to hook to your PC, you need a Video Capture Card. The card is expensive in USA/Canada. If you have some friends in China, you can ask them to help you buy a 4 channel Video Capture Card with half price comp to USA/s price.
3) Even you get Video Capture Card, you still need some prog to view. The card's manufaturer should provide this demo prog normally.
4) Generally, only when you want to remote video monitor your girls, you need this kind of professional card. For a remote video monitor system, it cost you$$$ at least.
5)For USB camera, it is a cheap camera (Compared with CCD camera).
However, Disadv are: a)hook distance is very short: 3~9 feet. b)Short live time and easy to disable.

Hope these info can help you.

yes, because there are over 1k companies in china make DVR cards. So the DVR cards' price drop very quickly. Kodicom's card is old fashion, the sold and PCB is out-date. you can find more good DVR cards in Ebay or alibaba (alibaba is more cheaper than ebay, but you must be play as huge trader to buy over 1K cards. otherwise they will not reply your email).
After you get the card, the DVR card's demo DVR program is not a cuuting-edge prog normally. In general, currently DVR or remote suiveillance system should be based on new TV codec(compression standard) named H.264/H.26L.
DVR cards manufacturerers can not provide you this new standard because it is out of their able.
If a DVR/RSS based on H.264, the average video streaming bitarte should be around 60~100kpbs (kilo-bits per sec) for a 352X288 pixel (CIF foramt) with 25 frames/per sec(captured rate). So you can easily send 8 Live TV channels to other guys via your ADSL line (assume your upstream rate is 512kpbs).
If your DVR program can send 1 or 2 may be 4 channel with no-smoothly images, the codec was MPEG2 or MPEG4.

Regards!
