I am posting in the hopes someone has this info at their fingertips. I read a link on here that broke each state based on how pot friendly they were. The unique thing about this document/study was that it took many things into effect not just the laws. It looked at many factors surrounding a pot friendly state and gave each of them a overall rating.

Does anyone have that read?

Within the US if there is such a place Id say Cali or Oregon perhaps even Arizona.Other than that north of the border although acheiving citizenship is a bitch these days. They know why we wanna live there and they are tryin to keep us out, they figure theyve got enuff growers as it is.But yeh within the US Northern Cali is as good as it gets.Anyone that suffers from even the occasional headache can get a med card and then as long as you keep yer plant count under 100 yer all set.Emerald Triangle baby!!!

Arizona is a big no-no, as they have some pretty tough laws, and I'm pretty sure they don't have a medicinal cannabis law on the books. California is definitely your best bet, but you can't go wrong with Oregon and Washington state. Alaska has some pretty good laws relating to privacy inside your home, as well as a bunch of wide-open space, so if you can stand the cold and the journey, Alaska might be the best of the rest.

Dude you can grow anywhere...

Just make sure you know what you are getting into, and that there are strict rules that must be followed...

If you dont know what I am talking about, then I dont suggest you grow.

Exactly.Look for the things that will make it successful without dwelling on the negative. Its illegal everywhere however in Florida I can run 3 1K fixtures for the price of running one in Cali and other places.Look for things like decent neighbors or no neighbors in a working class hood.Unfortunately in March the legislators are going to consider the Florida growhouse erradication act..It brings our mandatory manufacturing limit from 300 down to 25.Only a lunatic would grow more than 99 but thats how lax Fla was.Its still good in so many ways. There is a commercial growhouse explosion down here too which isn't bad news for the smaller housegrower if you know what I mean.Nothing like being single having a little house maybe a boat and motorcycle and the beach.Need I say more? This is the time to buy down here too

I read most of the state laws, and taking into account the environment, job possiblities, cost of living, weather, nightlife, etc, the only thing I can say is you don't want to be busted in Montana or Missouri or Virginia.

As for the best. It's still hard to determine. California looks good, but without a med card, you're screwed. Cultivation of Any amount (exception for patients or caregivers) is a felony 16 - 36 months jail time.

Too many states have cultivation laws where they weigh the plants to get a weight. You'll want to avoid those. You don;t want to find yourself in court arguing that the main stem doesn;t count. Stick with states that have laws where the number of plants is taken into account. Then should you be misfortune to get busted, your lawyer can are that you have "X" number of plants, and it doesn't matter how much they weight.

I think if you're moving, move to a place where you have good job prospects, the type of climate, or weather you prefer, don't bother attempting a large sale, and when you grow, keep it to yourself. Do not advertise.

If you want to move based on MJ laws, you are not the "thing" that's in control. You are letting the plant control your actions because it the law of the plant that is the determining factor in where you plant yourself.

I forgot to mention the cost of living, but someone already hinted on electric costs.

yeah ive been looking all over the place. i currently live in upstate ny(hour from nyc) and the rent is really high bc nobody can sell their properties. prices of bud are high, but im not looking for a commerial grow so the difference in profit does not ake a difference. its too damn cold!! ive been working for the past 4 years as a chef so im aiming to move to an area where the culinary attractions are. im looking to finetune my skills while growing the love of my life. florida kinda spooked me with people droppin threads about mad busts, but hispanic girls and bright sun sounds very appealing. ive looked over all the laws per state, it seems like cali, ohio, north carolina are very lax laws on low amts of cultivation. ive already been to jail for a lil bit, so if im goin again im fine with it, but optimally lookin for less than a year. no probation, thats why i was there in the first place. yeah im paranoid and pessimstic but ...?

yeah just lookin to relocate though. kinda need a change of scenery. it is home, but its a big country, might as well see it while im still young. and the rent i soo high in all of ny, anywhere u go. i live in orange cty ny and u cant find too many 2 bedroom apt for less than 1000/mo. any house costs ya more than that. i mean, the going price for killer nugs around here is 350-450, some pay more, so if youd be goin for commercial reasons itd make up the difference but i am not. just lookng to live in a state with a moderate temp, no freezing winters. i might ust get in the car and drive someday, we'll see what happens

I've looked at the chart thing, but wasn't really sure about how much time I would do in PA if I got caught. I'm only growin like 4 plants at a time. I'm not worried about jail time that much but i was just wondering.

I'd say trinity humboldt counties (THC) :), Mendocino County or Santa Cruz County would be the best bet in california, and IMHO california is the best state to grow in, the court systems in these 3 counties at least are VERY favorable to defendants in ALL marijuana related crimes, the DA in many cases won't even send it to court, and I've heard of that happening on cultivation cases as well.

it's the lowest priority offense in santa cruz and I believe humboldt which means they don't have narc taskforces for it, just as they don't have a jaywalking task force, in short nor cal is the best place to grow in legal terms, rent, electric, and other utilities however are a bitch and a half! just my .02

Although Texas has some pretty shitty laws as far as weed goes but it's really cheap to live here. That's insane to pay 1000 a month on a 2 bedroom apartment, you can get a nice 3 bedroom house in the suburbs for the same price where I live. Apartments are usually 400-550 a month for a nice place that isn't in the ghetto.

Laws are a slight problem however, although if you keep your grow semi-small, if caught you will most likely be looking at misdemenor charges. We don't have any growing laws here, only possesion. A quarter pound (112g) and under is a misdemenor. They don't just rip your plants up and throw them on a scale like I've read on this site before. I've known 3 people who have been busted growing and each time the cops dried the plants first and only charged them for the usable amount.

Austin, Texas is a pretty damn weed friendly place for the most part because it's very liberal. Every year I go to Austin Reggae Fest and smoke out of bongs right in front of the Police. It has a couple badass hydro stores and great nightlife.
