Reliable hoists for lifting heavy objects

I was searching for reliable hoists for lifting heavy objects such as carbon filters that need to be mounted up high near the ceiling. Many of the 1-2 ton hoists I found had a decent 7:1 lift advantage (70 lb object needs only 10 lbs force to lift/hoist) but many also seem cheaply made. I was mainly looking at rope hoists instead of chain because the chain usually works being oiled and that could be messy indoors.

Then I came across quality hoists for hunters who use for lifting game for about the same price. They have a 4:1 lift advantage and usually rated for 4-600 lbs which is still plenty for my needs. Here's one that even has a safety brake, the Hunters Specialties Mag Lift System with Gambrel for about $28 online (the bottom part used for hunting game looks like it can be detached):

I used to weigh 155 lbs and could easily press 200 lbs 10x over my head in a standing lift. Never exercised lifting weights either but did a lot of push ups daily. USED TO. But if you're not in shape you could easily injure yourself and recover time increases exponentially w/age. Excuses, excuses thanks for the advice!

I guess you could also inch them up with Progrip/Sungrip hangers or Hydrofarm Rope Ratchets (1/4" rope). They are very well made too.

poopy i do it same way,one all round strap on one end and another on the other, already screwed in and just laying there, then i barrel hug the filter and roll it up to my shoulder, walk it into one end and then slide the other over the other end,i then double the straps.when your a one man army this works quite well

Use a double pulley system. One pair for each end of the filter, with the lower pulley attached to a light chain wrapped around the filter. For further instructions just Google "double pulley system". Cheap and easy.
