has anyone heard of reflectix? it is supposed to block infared cameras from picking up on the heat signature of your home. if anyone has used or heard of it please give me some info. thank you
I love this stuff!! So much easier to work with than mylar, and reflects better than flat white.... claims to reflect some 97% of radiant energy, and is class a fire retardant....
built my latest flower cube entirely out of reflectix....
The Dopest, funny, I went to Home Depot to grab some and they had no clue what I was talking about... had to jump next door to a lowes and bring some back over to the depot to get them up to speed about products they advertise on their own damn website, and then look at me like I'm some cook out of my friggin' tree talking about some space age product reflectix??? sorry.....
Flir detection.... flir can only see hotspots when they have something to contrast.... if everything carries the same/similar temperature, then they will not see any hot spot.... I learned this working with the electric companies guy, he was scanning powerlines in my neighborhood once, I was like 'wtf are you doing with that???!!!' he said 'looking for hotspots' if you are running less than 10K you are not gonna have any problems with FLIR... unless someone rats on ya, then they get warrant to use it just to get a foot in the door on a sneak a peak..... sorry I am rambling.....
thank you for the very fast replies i think that may have ben record time. does anyone know of any other anti FLIR poly other than refletix and polysheild?
I used some of that insulating the laundry room from the garage. I added it in between the studs before I put in the fiberglass insulation over it. It said on the package that it carrys an R value of I think 8 or 9. I remember it came in a roll that was something like 18 inches wide and 25 feet long. Their in home depot near the lumber section or usually near the insulation area in the wood section. I think it would be better to use that for insulation and stick with mylar for the ultimate in reflectivity. I guess it's always better then flat white though...
Hey berry, how much of improved yield did you get using that canopy of reflectix vs regular method? I had the same idea and found this. im interested to know how well it works
it ain't gonna stop FLIR period. I think people get to paranoid about that at times, who do you hang out with, they got loose lips, you got any F's on your report card, you post grows online, how is your electric bill, you runnin; fluoros vs incandescents in your house, switch off anything electric that you can etc...
FLIR is a beast, I know BC is on some smackdown with power consumption etc...but a lot of other things to worry about, but yeah if you are in a decent size building (3-4 bedroom home, commercial space etc...) where you can justify over 6-10kw runnin 12 on 12 off plus moms ventilation etc...then think about the concerns.
there is that polyshield that would work way better than Reflectix...yes it will reflect light, but it also reflects heat...the R values are super low, you are supposed to have open air space behind it etc...I went on a rampage contacting manufacturers and getting all info I could.
light refectivity is a diff story. Flat white paint with increased titanium oxide in it is excellent period. cheap effective, all this other stuff will help.
But if they are runnin' FLIR they are on your electric bill and just waiting for you to F-up. that is reality. They ain't gonna go flyin around with 100's of thousands worth of equipment for shits and giggles. THEY HUNT..teams of monkeys working around the clock
If you are in a heavy chopper area, might be worth it to move 50-100 miles away. maybe a few hundred.
This is all from a concerned consumer perspective.
SAFETY FIRsT.
dos centavos.
good luck.
Berry
I am posting here cause I can't prob. post again til the morrow. I believe you bro. I just have my doubts...not using thermal imaging devices and hoovering over a room with Reflectix over the lamps I can't say...
just a skeptic...if you have seen it I back you up...BTW I feel like i read some shit somewhere you were postin' (memory is foggy) about cigarette butt burnin from 300ft up.
I just want people to be a little more conscious and not think that hanging some reflectix is gonna solve all the problems.
snr. brillante.... you are wrong there my friend. I am sorry I have to disagree with you.... flir can only pic up heat signature... reflectix repels some 97% of all radiant energy... no heat to see, all they are looking at is a bunch of blue nothing.... trust someone who's seen through a flir.....
about the yield, I didn't notice anything major.... I did notice the intensity of a 600 surrounded by reflectix was comparable to mylar, and was killing white paint as far as keeping light in.... I'm telling you when I pull down my flap, it's a bright white nothing, then the light escapes and you can finally focus in on the cab, no shit...
