Redirect your anger!

After a recent eye-opening project I completed for a college class (12 credits left for my masters, btw), I realized that most people's anger is severly misguided.

****ing pigs. I hate cops, "blah blah ****ing blah" (from Crank). I intereviewed 75 local and federal law enforcement officers. My interview pool consisted of officers from local city municipalities, county sheriff departments, state law enforcement (state troopers), DEA, FBI, Secret Service, and Dept. of homeland security. I am not going to get into the purpose of the project, because it was quite involved, but I will touch on the part that is applicable to the members of this community.

I touched on the issue of marijuana, legality of the drug, and how the individuals I interviewed pursue these "law breakers". Shockingly, 56 out of the 60 local, county, and state law enforcement officers said they couldn't care less about someone who uses marijuana and wouldn't vote against its legality. These are the officers that you and I deal with. The one's that write the speeding tickets, search the cars, and respond to 911 calls. Of the officers that made an arrest for marijuana over the past 6 months, 85% stated they proceeded with an actual arrest because the arrestee was acting in an inappropriate manner (i.e. disrespectful, rude, arrogant, asking for their lawyer, etc.). The other 15%, for the most part, stated because it's a statistic the politicians and "higher ups" want to see.

There's more to the study, and more to the questions I asked, but I'm getting tired of typing. So I'll sum up the post...

The "pigs" and "****ing cops" you immature 18 year olds are always talking about on this site are for the most part looking to make it home to their families, safe and without bullet holes at the end of the night. Although, you may think your particular interaction with the police, whether it was them pulling you over and searching your vehicle, or responding to a loud house party you were attending, it is really an insignificant event for them. They respond to violent robberies, stabbings, shootings, aggravated batteries, and other numerous other intense calls on a nightly basis. Why are you getting harrassed? Why do you feel you are being singled out? Talk to your politicians. Talk to the people who hold the salaries of these hard-working officers in the palm of their hands. (The puppet masters). Not everyone can start at the top, and sometimes you have to take your licks to move up. The street officers follow orders, period. You want change, talk to the people who can make the changes. You want to complain, don't sound so ****ing ignorant about what you are complaining. Grow up, open your eyes, and realize people.

umm... **** the police?

ever gotten beat down, pepper sprayed, or had a shotgun pointed in your face with some screaming Nazi-Cop on the other end? I didnt think so.

what is wrong with asking for a lawyer?

Hey, anyone who bashes down doors 10 at a time, with machine guns and irritable dogs - destroying families, leaving ppl scarred emotionally for the rest of their lives, and maybe even shooting them - over a closet grow - have well earned my dislike. What a one-sided "War"...

I will not use the word "hate", as I do not hate police, matter of fact I'd even help them if I knew something about a real crime (murder, rape, molestation, etc...) There are undesirable people in society, and thus they are needed.

But this sure as "sheet" is not needed---> Using gestapo tactics on ppl who raise their own gardens, and do not sell is rediculous and a waste of taxpayer money. Gov't would be much better off allowing us P. grow permits, at a cost of course, say $100/yr. for 5 outdoor yard plants.

Then the mountain of $$ goes to gov't, not crime. We grow our own, we're happy too, cash blackmarket/commercial ops decline in a big way due to lack of demand. Heck what's $100, a week's supply status quo?

Problem(s) Solved.

As far as "contact your politician" goes, last time I looked, I was not the CEO of some big corporation with millions of $$ to bribe *cough* er "influence" them... so contacting gov't does nothing but put you on the radar...

Hence I have no say/influence and never will in this very unjust world - Unless we can do what the gays did, come out and band together... they got what they wanted, and we outnumber them 10 to 1 at least.

As for opening my eyes and growing up - well I'm nearing forty, and believe me, my eyes are WIDE open...and have been for a long time...

Edit: But I'll surely do my part in the fight for true justice... Grow On :rasta:

Peace

And unfortunately that still adds up to 100% enforcement. The days of them dumping your shit and letting you go are long gone when their ultimate goal is to get your name into the criminal system because they know the long term harm it does.

I certainly hope you followed up your questions when given such answers as " the suspect was acting in an inappropriate manner... by asking for a lawyer. " What was their answer for being upset when a citizen asks to preserve their own rights? Most police seem to take issue with this.

Im also sure if you've ever had the experience of being taken somewhere private to have your ass kicked by a couple cops you might be singing a slightly different tune. Nothing fun or deserved about that.

I think instead of telling people theyre ignorant for misdirected anger and thinking some partial survey that portrays one small nuance that cops think they would rather be doing something else than enforcing weed [ like fishing and drinking beer ] you should focus on why for the most part cops are only nice when they want to be and for that brief period they make sure you know and acknowledge 'how nice they are being to you' by not enforcing a dozen other laws they never had probable cause to tag you to begin with? Then ask them why they are total authoritarian power tripping assholes 99% of the rest of the time.

You might say, well thats not all cops, and I would say yes, youre right its not all cops but it does accurately describe most of them. So are people wrong for saying F all the cops? Maybe, but if its just a fractions/english issue then would it be less ignorant to say F most of the police?

One of my longest childhood friends has just be come a cop. It has slightly, to say the least changed our relationship as friends. While I make all the donut jokes I possibly can I have noticed a change in how he process's things. It should also be known this kid not only used to smoke weed with me on a regular basis, he sold the stuff too.

Over long talks on the phone he has given me insight into how things work. We are about 3,000 miles a part now. He thinks I have "grown out" of my weed phase, or at least thats what I let him think. He has told me about some of the loop holes that the police can use to get into a car (or house) and about how some of their profiling works. I have tried to make it so that he gives up this information without really knowing it.

I call him when I read about or see some bs arrest on the tv or the internet to ask his opinion about how so and sos rights where violated. He usually side with the police, of course. I'll call him on the bs and he just kind of blows it off "its no big deal" to him and that pisses me off sooooo much. It makes me sad because this is someone that used to at least see it both ways and now he only sees it one way. He basically has been brainwashed. I told him to look into that organization of cops for just laws with drugs and he won't do it. He says it would make him look bad to his bosses. The fact of the matter is policing the public is how those guys make a living and the less laws that are out there the less money they can make. Bummer for us I guess.

Please tell us what you have learned. It is the very reason for this forum.

I suggest that you go to youtube and look up the don't get busted video by Barry Cooper. In it are most of the things I had talked about with him. Its a good video and it will save me lots of typing. If you watch that and still have questions then we can get into it.

How is following orders, when they result in the unjust imprisonment of people harmless to society, ok?

When they took me in for posession, I was totally respectful, they booked me, and the officer offered to give me a ride back to my car.

When he did this, he all but apologized and basically stated that he hopes if we run into each other in the future, I won't hold it against him (paraphrase)

This indicated that he knew what he was doing was wrong, and he did it anyways. Our city is 0 tolerance, you will get arrested and charged for posession 100% of the time.

If there is one thing I can't stand it is lack of backbone. I've been told by employers (one in particular) to do things I didn't much agree with (stalking clocks etc) and it was pretty easy to just say no. I was ready to be fired for this, and so would ANYONE with a backbone.

I can't have respect for someone that is 'only following orders', sounds like a useful idiot to me.

I've grown and matured, and it's been years since my last encounter. They are playing us vs them, and they can still suck a nut.

These guys are nothing but paramilitary rolling through my streets, maybe that is unique, I suspect not.

the thing that i like to do with that survey is compare to a survey of people that smoke marijuana in the sense that they are NOT being honest about their activities. what they say is always the same and what they do is always the same. however, what they say ABSOLUTELY NEVER matches what they do. the results prove that fact. supposedly, a very small percent of US citizens use marijuana. yet, it doesn't match actual consumption. marijuana users say one thing but the results show a different story. police officers say they could care less about marijuana. but we have an all time record of marijuana arrests of 800,000+ in 2006, up 100,000 from 05. what they do is completely different. i am very hard pressed to believe that these officers don't care about marijuana enforcement.

the real question i'd have to ask is when they approach these vehicles and talk to these people, why do they provoke and excite people to do inappropriate things? why not come up to a vehicle and instead being a dick, start off the interaction in a respectful manner. so many times i've had to ignore a police officer for doing something stupid and ignorant, looking for trouble. but there are also times when an officer said only what he needed and moved on with his life and most importantly allowed me to move on with mine. only one time did i get an officer who came up in a joking manner. and he called me a few names at that. and he let me off.

these stories aren't uncommon. but they at least match the results better than 85% of cops probably lying on a survey.

the problem with law enforcement, the problem that will never change, is that they get stupid people to do it...its not like you have some genius kid who gets a 1500 on his SAT and has a 3.9 and people are like, "hey you're really smart you should be a cop!"...my problem with cops is that the majority of them are just really stupid and feel like the fact that they are LEO increases their IQ or something...after people have screwed up in high school, dropped out of state school, lived at home for a couple of years, then manage to get some bullshit criminal justice associate's degree from their local harvard-on-the-highway, THEN they get hired to be cops! being a cop is, for most people, the last option in a long line of failure...because of this they bring a loser's mindset into the job and always have to 'show people' what's up...i must say that i don't mind the cops for the most part where i live but i still try to avoid all contact with them...i also force a bigass toothy smile on my face when i see them and force myself to say hi or some shit or nod and smile if i'm in the car...they profile at all times and they want to believe their instincts, so if u say yessir, nossir, are shaven and have short hair and are white you're going to get the benefit of the doubt...however if i was black there is no way in hell i would live here, i wouldn't even consider it not for one second...

If you think the average police officer is stupid please stay clear of any Dept. of Corrections because there is where the true idiots of law enforcement dwell. Its amazing especially in the Fed system to be housed with people of much greater intellect than their keepers. The average cop on the street has a job I woudn't envy and I'm sure most would like to see MJ legalized with the exception of the DEA,it would make their jobs much easier and more productive. Then there are the pitiful excuses for humanity present in any vocation..

the power of legalization rests in the hands of the politicans and big business. when we were trying to legalize mj in Denver our biggest opponents were beer giants like Coors and liquior distributors. When we went state wide with our efforts Coors and the other fire water pushers dumped even more money into fighting legalization. not to mention all of the pharmie companies that would fight legalization for recreation or medical purposes. I took signatures from alot of police to get the initative on the ballot... potheads wer the ones that i actually had to sell the initative to.
It is a shame that with a GED you can ruin peoples lives, but it takes a phd to save people. The police are in now way innocent, they have the ability to say "no we are not going to tow the line on this one" they have the ability to make a distinction from what is a home grow or a commercail op. they can say NO. The fact remains that they don't because they are expendable, they a 40 or 50 more HS dropouts more than willing to take their place. But placeing harsher restriction to becoming a cop i.e more education would cause a serious decrease in the amount of police. No offence to anyone, but an educated person would not want to be a cop!

I think the pOlice act alot like gang-bangers,the more there are around the tougher they get and the more shitty they act tawards ya.lol I've also seen with my own eyes on 2 seprate occasions cops flat out lie their ass' off on the wittness stand (1 the first time and 2 the second time). No integrity there eh? What's funny is in both cases the lies were exsposed and the person set free. But only after thousands in lawyer fee's and years of fightin it.Nothin ever happened to the cops tho,if it would have been one of us,we'd of went ta jail fer pergeree.Ya know in a civil manner (and sometimes fer some folks not so civil) it'll always be us against them...what we do is against the law,and they are the law. So,take care and stay safe and yul never have ta find out how the pOlice -really- are! my 2 cents BC

Anger is ALWAYS based upon unfulfilled expectations; fully let go of the expecting, and your anger will be no more.

If you don't expect police officers to behave proper, civil, law-abiding, respectful, honourable, ethical, or have any morals at all, then you won't be angry when they act the way that they do.

Their job is not to serve the public. Their job is to obey the government and control the masses. Freedom and Police States are mutually exclusive, you cannot have both.

So true. I've heard that song and dance before...

Everyone has a certain amount of autonomy in their job.

Just this afternoon I was behind a State Trooper when another car ran a red light. He flicked on his lights and started to pursue, but right as the trooper was about to floor it, a group of cars began to approach the intersection and pass in front of us. As they passed, he turned off his lights, and proceeded in the direction he was originally heading.

He actively decided that he wasn't going to pursue the offender as he could've cut the cars off, or began his chase as soon as they had passed.

While they may not be responsible for the laws they are enforcing, they DO decide who gets pulled and who doesn't...
