Recreational Marijuana AMA thoughts and responses

Fellow icmaggers: there is a very good AMA from a prominent psychiatrist on reddit!

What do ya'll think about some of the responses?

Science AMA Series: I’m Dr. Kevin Hill, an addiction psychiatrist at McLean Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. I currently research marijuana and have spoken to many law-makers regarding the legislation of recreational marijuana. AMA!

Why would I care what a terrorist organization thinks?

depends on the terrorist organization.

There's another one that expects a completed tax form every April 15.

As far as the doctor, always good when one speaks honestly.

Too bad it's such a rare occurrence.

Marijuana addiction isn't a real thing, unless you consider World of Warcraft addiction or ice cream addiction to be real things.

I would take it a step further...being addicted to cannabis is like being addicted to water, to air, and to nutrition...especially if your endocannabinoid system doesn't work right or I'll just stop here because there are countless things it improves

By definition an addiction is a habit that has negative consequences upon yourself or those around you.

Repeated use dispite harm... Addiction

Repeated use dispite harm... Addiction

I have not harmed myself or anyone else due to my 45 year old years of smoking pot

So, I guess I'm not addicted

Anything that's rewarding or fun could be called "addictive" when you define it that broadly. Repeated use despite harm. Bodybuilders cutting weight for a show don't get to go out drinking with their friends. That could harm their social life. People who do extreme sports sometimes get injured, yet they continue their hobby. Ice cream tastes really good. People continue to eat it even when they get too fat, when they know obesity and excess sugar consumption is unhealthy.

Defining it that broadly cheapens the meaning of the word addiction. It's stupid to call those situations "addiction" when you've lost people you loved to actual addictions.
