Reborn in the warm womb of cannabis

Hello IC Magers.

I have been reborn in the warm womb of cannabis. I am a 53 yr old guerrilla who has never grown indoors. Been growing for over 25 years and always with my boots on.

Illinois is going recreational in Jan 2020 and if nothing changes you can grow 5 plants with a med license. In the end , as me the care giver , my wife and I will be able to grow 10 plants. Its so weird to grow legally. Do a search on my screen name. I am in a thread lamenting on always being a guerrilla. Going on about how growing legal somehow is losing weeds identity, selling out to the man.

Dude show where the man is and I ready to sell whole damn kit-n-koobdle!

At 53 I am ready to grow indoors but not because of the legality but the shear amount of work, will power, time and dedication to art of being a guerrilla.

I have nothing but good things to say to my brothers in arms. The ones who start all their seeds outdoors and fend off animals ( that includes rippers), pests, fungus, and the biggest bully of all mother nature. She takes what she wants and you’re giving moustache rides whether you want to or not. It tough being a pimp and a guerrilla.

Lets start with the fact I have never smoked anything but my own bud. Of course I have had mexy brick and some “kind bud” from friends. I make my own hash and dabbled(pun intended) a little bit in the art of the concentrates. I currently am a tincture practitioner.

I have loads and loads of cannabis experience but only with outdoor strains. I have tried so many different strains suited for my climate. Some the best strains I have grown are LA Con, Sugar Black Rose and pre fem seeds “Endless Sky". Oh I still dream about endless sky. She kept me staring into space for hours.

I have been around and on line since the OG years. Always a guerrilla although on my way home from the outdoor forums I have peeked through the window of the indoor forums many times. Secretly masterbating to all the ooohy gooy terpenes. Always being sure to tell all the guys at the outdoor forum I went straight home .

I have never really smoked any of killer strains of pot lore. Oh man it hurts to type that. I am proud of the fact I haven’t bought weed in 25 yrs but would like to widely expand my horizons.

I am looking for head stash strains, I don’t care about yield or how quickly it finishes. Bag appeal is not what I am looking for. I want something special. Potency, Terpenes and Taste.

I of course know some of popular strains by name GG, GS Cookies, Blue Dream, OG Kush. They all have there own damn sticky . I also know that a name in itself does not make a good plant. I want to change “ I know” because I dont “know" anything only what I have read.

What I do know from 25 years of growing from seed is the availability to grow seeds from as close to the actual breeder as you possibly can is directly related to how close the strain resembles the description. Its not easy, about 70% of all my seed purchases come from large seed distributors like Attitude. Although many times I have bought from smaller seed purveyors and I always got what I paid for. Thats all you can ask and all I am looking for.

I bring that up because as much as I would like to grow GG, GS Cookies, OG Kush finding an accurate representation is so difficult. I think my chances of finding a good strain are better served looking elsewhere and that elsewhere is here on this forum at IC Mag!!

Congrats! :D

Yes, indoor is a whole different beast. I'm the opposite, having spent 15+ years indoor and just now playing with outdoor. :) Couple subjects to study, if you haven't already.

- Hepa filtered intakes (I make mine from furnace filters, cardboard boxes and ducting take-off collars)
- R/O filtered water, to hydrate the perfect balance of nutes/amendments You've already researched and assembled. This also allows you to move to nearly any water supply, and not have to change your grow style or quality one bit. ;)
- Air Exchange at 2-3x/minute, with full flow through the plants. When combined with hepa filtered air, this reduces mold risks to almost nothing.
- Grow management practices, to drastically reduce or eliminate infestations.

When you get everything dialed in properly, you're going to be enjoying some sick quality. :D

Ph test your water. If you are growing in a container and your water is out of balance eventually your soil will be too. When I moved I had all kinds of problems growing that I never had before. It was because my new city's water comes out of the tap at 8.0. Once I started adding a teaspoon of lemon juice to the water my plants went back to being great.

Your response is much appreciated. I have a shit load of research and learning to do on the indoor growing process.

On this thread I hope to keep it centered around strains and strain choices. What have been your favorite strains and where have you purchased your seeds and or clones?

I am trying to stay focused on seeds because I am so far out of the loop finding quality clones probably isn't in the picture yet.

You have a great attitude towards it, and a lot of observational aptitude from growing outside. Only thing I can think to add is don't play games with your electricity/lighting if it could possibly risk a fire. Get quality built lights or kits and hang them well. With 10 plants and the modern options for lighting and hanging you shouldn't have to worry one bit.

Thanks for jumping in and all advice is welcome.

Tell me about your quest for good genetics? What have you grown and what have/still are your favorites?

I guess I can prime the pump.

I have read a lot about Bodhi's Goji OG and Sunshine Daydream

I know our own Chunkypigs breeds some nice strains also.

What's up Hamstring,

Anything from a reputable breeder should be a potential source of awesomeness. My favorite breeders are Bodhi, Cannaventure, Karma.

I am seeing some nice cuts of exotics genetics, Cream Dream.

I have never grown anything from ACE but they seem to be the go to for great sativas.

Any of these asshole greed breeders charging 800-1,000 a pack, don't waste your time. They are hucksters not breeders.

I really like Bodhis Jungle spice was awesome totally different than anything I have ever had.

I have a couple BOG sour grapes about to sex. First run with his stuff.

I forgot about BOG thanks for the reminder. I have to try a sativa and have heard good things about ACE. I grew one of his faster finishers outdoors but wasn't impressed. Time try to grab a Golden Tiger's tail.

It had a really strange smell, like a hippie van after a weekend of partying. No one else wanted to buy it so I horded it all away for me. I ran black triangle, which was a keeper for a while. Love triangle, and gogi were good to.

Darn good recommendations to start with. A couple others that come to mind that I’ve read good things on are CSI humboldt and Archive. So many options these days

Been curious about the S@nnies Jack for a while

Kingdom Organic Seeds (KOS) has some interesting lines, I loved the Iron Cindy done by a friend a few years back

Oh and maybe Dynasty? sampled some really nice Pineapple Fields and Platinum Huckleberry Cookies this summer

We would be remiss not to mention Katsu and Verdant Green as well. Especially with how active they are on the board.

Romulan might be a good one to throw in the hat as well, RomulanJake is doing a grow journal on it now and it's pretty impressive. It's quickly moving up my own list of what to buy next.
