hi is this a realistic number of plants to grow, id like to grow 6 plants 3 C-99 and 3 northern lights ill veg them for 4 weeks to keep them all medium/short, under a 400 wat hps and a 150 hps, id spread them in a 6 formation and then stick the hps 150 over the end which is getting less light, is this to many plants, or could i fit some more thanks alot.

I've done 6 under one light, but they were all the same strain. Plenty of mylar wrapped around to reflect light back in. Kept em under a MH for veg, and short so the light was still evenly distributed. I used the HPS only for flowering. The trick was the MH conversion bulb for the HPS balast, two bulbs +1 ballast.

In this case, you want as much mylar or reflective area to use all of your avaiable light. In your mixed garden the canopy should be kept even. Also, you should rotate the plants so they all recieve an even light cycle under the weaker light and you should be ok. Happy growing.

One light;
5 gal = 6-9
2 gal = 12-16

Yo can spread 2 -lights apart a bit, angle them inward & fit 23 -5 gal

400/150's W - don't get that deep of penetration / keep the lights close (14-16 in) & draw the heat off, or keep a fan on the top of the plants at times the lights are on.

Good blessings in your grows

Reggaefan I'm calling 9 plants under the 400 (in 2-3 gallon pots) and a few more on the end with the 150. I don't know about that height NWM. You can place a 400 a bit closer than that (I'll measure mine when the lights pop on) and the results are in. I run my plants 6-8 inches below a Bare Bulb 400. 23 5 gallon pots will have a hard time fitting in the foot print of a 400 + 150 without having to do extensive plant juggling (even if they are Angled like you said). Hmmmm.

i believe the rule of thumb is that you need 50 watts of light per square foot for optimum growth. 30 is acceptable. In my experience it takes about a square foot for 1 plant. roughly. works out to aprox. 11-20 plants. maybe more if you can learn to train 'em

hey there reggiefan, I use a 400 watt light with a grow area of 2 foot by 3 foot. I place my plants 2-6 of them under a screen when sex shows . My walls are white for best reflection. I use 5 different fans for great air movement. I would grow out your plants under that 400 and take some clones and get them ready under that 150 . Good luck :joint:

Come on now. This thread said Realistically. The highest # of anything I have seen under a single 400 was here at IC Mag and it was a total of 16 Cindy clones. They were in small pots and packed in quite tight. How do ya'll expect to get 20+ Plants under the foot print of a 400 which realistically is 3' X 3' or 1 meter sq? Even with the supplemental 150 what some of you are saying is a stretch. Sure the Math might work out but do ya'll have a 400 (+ 150) with 20 (or 23) plants under them? Are they in 5 gallon buckets (which by my tape measure are about 2 feet across)? The last figure alone (assuming you are growing 4 plants wide and 5 deep for a total of 20 in 5 gallon pots/buckets) would measure a whopping 8' X 10'. Take into to consideration a 5 gallon Nursery pot isn't quite 2 feet across (nor is it 5 Gallons) you would still have an area too large for a 400 + 150.

Hi Reggaefan, personally I think the answer to your problem as to all small space growers is S.C.R.O.G. Try it ....you'll like it! peace D.L.

Dr L Reggae didn't say they had a problem. They want suggestions for a Realistic number of plants to fit under a 400 + 150 (Not that a SCROG is a bad idea mind you). Too many Opinions and not enough Info or Pictures are already posted. I see 4 good suggestions and some far fetched Guesses.

We've currently got 10 ladys under 1 400w hps  There's some room left, I think 14 would be fine but I'm happy with the 10 so far :joint:

yes, it all depends on the size of the pot, experience of the grower, and the strains used.

i use 2 gal pots and i can keep anywhere up to 14 under a 400hps. 8-14 plants, and that should be enough to keep a regular rotation of harvests, meaning that you should be able to harvest 1 plant a week or so. BUT, with smaller pots comes smaller yields.

peace

yes very true ,, i grow 5 under my 400 watt .. i have 2 of them .. but anyways i usually only use the 1 ,, unless iam growing some sativas & need more light

in 30 liter's of soil ,, the buckets are 40 cm wide & the reflector hood just cover's them nicely ... i hate Hydro Farm , SunBeam ..ect ect hoods ..never used them.. never will .. because you cant bend them in & out to optimize the little extra space you may need .. if the plants get really bushy

iam going to run a second lamp ,,, just to cover the xtra 50 cm's ,, fack that !
there is no need ...peace

cheers for all the response although seems like soem suggest bit to many for my little 400! im probably going to try 5 in a 5 spot dice formation under it and have them in normal size buckets by the end all the walls around are white so this should be good reflection, cheers alot.

just a thought...

just a thought...

but my space is tight, about 2' 6" x 5' and it is painted white. Pretty bright but when I put mylar on the walls the light on the plants had increased dramatically. Spend the extra $ for mylar and it ought to increase productivity!

Oh yeah, I'm currently growin 3 plants under a 400w hps conversion bulb but will double that to 6 once these bagseed ladies run their course.

Best of luck!

Just a question to the guys that have the 12+ plants under a single 400 Watt light. What type of plants are you growing (indica vs. sativa) and what type of yeild per square meter are you getting out of this type of setup? I think that the light penetration would be a little bit stretched to the outer plants to have a good yield or even good quality of the buds.
