Reactivating Carbon Filter

You are supposed to be able to reactivate carbon by heating iit up, has anyone ever tried this with a filter? I know it wouldn't be practical for the big ones unless you had access to a pizza over or something.. but the smaller ones should fit ok..

Thought I'd throw that out there.. it's worth a try..

if it would be feasible it'd be worth trying maybe cuz carbons 4 bux a pound and I can get used carbon for free. But I just read you need pretty high temps and apparently the smell the carbon has trapped get released not sure if it smells like growing weed or what.

Soak the charcoal for several days in Hydrogen Peroxide. This should oxidize all volatile organic compounds. Then rinse in clean water before drying. Oven or air.

In order to re-activate activated-carbon, it must undergo a process called Pyrolysis. (The thermal decomposition of organic material through the application of heat in the absence of oxygen.). To fully re-activate saturated activated-carbon, you must heat it to approximately 1,472 °F, in a controlled atmosphere of low oxygen concentration to reduce the possibility of combustion. This fact is even stated in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Engineering and Design, Adsorption Design Guide, Design Guide No. DG1110-1-2.

so no u cant reactivate it at home AT ALL. yea put it in the oven and maybe neibiours can bring over hotdogs and marshmellows after house blows up hahahaha
Thinking here how cheap can a person go rather then go out and buy a new carbon filter, hell they have ones out now that you can flip around so it last longer but what 200- 600 for a good carbon scrubber , or 3 - 5 + years after fire dept calls cops over after fire is out
and charges you with growing a illegal substance , endangering public, list goes on over a stupid 300.00 carbon scrubber
Here is igniting temps for all types of gases and chemicals might make a person wonder prior to placing anything in a oven

If ya wanna clean it, take it down...then point the fan down into the filter and plug in for an hour (outside the grow). The reversed airflow should unplug some carbon pores and stretch your filter life for a bit homie!

Bein peace

Anyone have any new information or tips?? All I see is contradicting information. Saw one guy that makes vodka and reuses it over and over, boiling in water for 2 hours then baking in oven for a couple of hours. Another suggested hydrogen peroxide soak then bake it.

I suggest you buy more carbon until you figure out how to recharge the old stuff.

Reason:

If you live where Cannabis is illegal and your efforts fail you'll really regret not buying new carbon.
Great reply. Sometimes you get so locked in on saving a buck, you forget the penalties of what can happen if your $50 savings fail.

Comfortably numb!
I had a video demonstating how to "replace" the carbon. Turns out the hassle outweighed the "pricey" replacement element. Making the savings negligible.
