Re-Rooting a mother plant?

I had a friend watch over some 3 seedlings for me while I was on vacation for 3 weeks. I came back to 3 extremely stretched plants, one male, one female and one undecided.

My question is this: Can I cut the main stalk below a node just as I were doing a clone and re-root the female?

The reason I want to do this is to get its height back under control, and work it into a Bonsai eventually, which in turn will provide me with cuttings for a pseudo perpetual grow. I would just trim the top down, but the lower far spaced nodes are not showing any growth.

sounds like a great idea. the only thing to keep in mind is the tops may be a little harder to root, but they do.

huh?

you want to clone your female plant, and then use that clone as the eventual mom?

yes that would work, and no I don't understand the confusion.

I would just cut and train the original female, flower her out, all while getting this clone going as you would for a mom. You may hate the weed and your way is gonna add time to finding out if you even want to keep it.

Dont do it...

if you take too much vegetation the plant will not be able to get enough water thru the stem...

Take some cuttings and create a new mom...

If you insist a better solution would be to air layer some roots below the active growth..

but only after you have rooted cuttings....

Errghh, all good answers. The problem would be my impatience!! :spank:

Just gonna wait till I get some good clipping material and start over again. Thanks for the input!

Hey Ghetto Grown-

I had a similar problem with sprouts that were so stretched they couldn't stand up on their own. I cut them all down to a reasonable height and re-rooted with rooting gel in Sun Leaves float n' grow plugs floating in plain water with an airstone. They re-rooted within a week and took off with height under control.

At the point I did this there were no nodes. The seedling was only on it's first set of leaves. Hope this helps

Ok, I waited a week and nabbed a few clippings. My FIRST attempt at cloning ever! So, pass that good karma along and help me get them rooted! I got on the "grow my own" kick about a 4 months ago and since have studied and read every bit of info and grow guide I could find... and here we go. Expect a grow journal as I get my posts high enough to do pics. Question, its an indoor soil grow, but its in a half closet... so where do I do my journal... indoor soil, micro, or Grow Journals? *excited* Pass the good karma this way!

UPDATE: a Year later, on my third grow from these 2 females I was gifted. Both were from bag seed. One was rather foul as far as smokeing and taste and flavor.. .. all of it was bad. The other one, was a fragrant beautiful female that stays short for my indoor grow space. 3rd harvest in about a month now. So yay!

Right now I am still very much a "hobbiest" as it were, but would hope to be able to grow my own smoke and never buy it. Still using CFL's and during flowering I throw another 250 watts of Halogen on as long as I am home to keep an eye on it... its a hot bastard.

I flower one at a time, and have tried LST, and Super Cropping, and this time decided to let it go au'nautral. My reward is a nice fat single cola plant with lots of lower popcorn.

Anyways, still lurking. Maybe I will put together a photo grow report from this grow if I get bored. Feel free to check out my photobook now. I have some of my first grow pics in there.

See ya!

From What I've Read In IC & Other Forums Using Halogen Lights Do Nothing For Growing. Plus They Put Out Allot Of Heat.

Thank You

Hrmmm, really? I mean a lumen is a lumen right? Oh well, saves me the trouble of tending a hot light if its true.

A lumen is a lumen. Yes. Some sources are more effecent at converting electicity into lumuns, however. Incandancent, to include halogen are the least effecent, and teherfore produce much waste in the form of heat.

Use CFLs, or or a 70W + HID (MH for veg, HPS for flower), many can be gotten at home dpot for not much money.
