RDWC set up- Trying to go to a big pot system, tall plants

Hello IC kick ass place this is......

I am about to fire up in near future and trying to decide on how to do this correctly. I ran DWC for few years without a res. I am trying to design a DWC system using a res. I have read alot hear, lurked for long time actually. I have read many threads but trying take a piece from many and combine it to 1. Yes I have read Heath Robinson amoungst others and Heath's set up is my base honestly. I am not trying to pull trees like he did with low watts, but rather trying to use his system and try to incorporate some of the modern things to it. I do love to grow sativa's and yes I do prefer to grow a tall plant with 4 colas. I know this is not most growers prefered method but I prefer it. I do not like to grow a 24 or 30 inch tall plant, prefer taller with side lighting to keep number count down. 60 inc tall to 70 is the heighth I like to grow.

So here it goes.....

From what I have gathered it seems that most use a 10 bucket 5 gallon system and a 500 GPH pump and a 50 gallon res.

I am wanting to use 27 gallon hard plastic tote as the bucket. You can get them at lowes they are black with yellow top. I would like to use 8 in the system. I was planing on using pvc to plumb with and pump the res into the side at the bottom of the tote and have a drain near the top of the tote on the side. The drain side would gravity feed into a tote then be pumped into the res.

From what have gathered it appears that you use a pump that is 10 times the volume of the system buckets(10 5 gallon buckets 500GPH pump). Planing on each tote to hold 22 gallons but we know that can change once you get into the midle of constructing it. Do you try and go a little short on GPH and use 2,000 GPH or would it be better to be safe and use a 2,500 GPH pump to insure proper GPH in the system.

As far as plumbing was thinking of using pvc pipe for the plumbing. Was not for sure on pipe size, would 1 inch feed line and 2 inch return be sufficiant size for this?

The final ? is the res size, would 50 gallon res be to small?

I know most people go with small gallon pot, I ran that way for long time myself. I would like to try and go to larger pots so I am not having as many issues with bigger plants due to root ball size.
Thanks fellas, if need more input let me know.
