Random Cloning questions

Just a few non-specific cloning questions...

I am using a bucket cloner right now, with an average succees rate of 80% or more, but still have a few questions.

1) Cloning gels such as clonex. Does it make sense to use these with bucket cloners or mist cloners since the gel gets washed off the cuttings within minutes ?

2) Water changes....yes or no and how often ? I change my water once a week..too often? Does anyone think some bacterial growth in the water may be helpful?

3) I just changed my neoprene holders, and for whatever reason I am seeing faster results and healthier clones than I was with the neoprene that had been through about 3 cloning cycles. This is not the first time I have noticed this. Anyone have any idea why new neoprene holders work better than used ones???

Make sure you use hydrogen peroxide to rinse everything, reservoir and holders, after each batch of cuttings.

I wouldn't mess with rooting plants- by changing water or cleaning- in the middle of rooting.

As long as the water is cool enough and aerated enough you should be fine, no bacterial growth. If you need too, add ice, or a frozen water bottle into the cloner, to keep water temps down.

I don't use a cloner, just rapid-rooter plugs, but I've been cloning for 4 years and know that sterilization gives you more consistent results. I also know that the less you handle rooting cuttings the better off they are.

Most cloning gels contain butyric acid which enables a complete "scarring" process when applied and won't be completely washed off.

IMO changing the water in the reservoir at least once a week is essential to keeping it free of algae and other contaminants.

I don't mess around with aero and bubble cloners anymore as keeping a constant water temperature proved to be too much of a pain. I get at least 90% success rate using soilless mix and humidity.

I use a bubble cloner and would highly recommend a product call Clear Rez. Using this product I never have to worry about algae which was a problem before using it. It is a bit pricey for what it is, which is essentially just chlorine water.

There is a thread on here on how to make your own using pool shock purchased from the pool store for like 5.bucks that should last a lifetime. I'm lazy though and a bottle lasts me months so I go ahead and pay the $20 for a bottle at the hydro shop. With this type of water treatment you don't have to worry so much about water temps.

I run a 16 spot easy cloner an use cloning gel also I have the clonex solution mix in with water at half it's called for rate. I have massive roots within 7 days with a 100% success rate. Also I no for a fact house n garden roots elixir will make your roots explode.

I use a 35 site aerocloner with 100% success. been doing so for 4 years. temp is the most important factor in aerocloning. 75-80 for quickest, best results! don't do rez changes. I clean and run hot bleach water in between runs. I use clonex gel, but ive also not used and got healthy clones. ive built my own cloners in the past but found u can pick up a clone king for almost the cost to build ur own. good luck!
