Ramping up electric slowly

Hey all, I've heard it mentioned on here a few times that it is best to ramp up electrical usage slowly when in a residential setting. The room in question for me is 4k and that elec bill will look high but not too high in the new place. I can have it going full steam in a month but that would mean all of a sudden this new resident has a big elec bill. I can see some sense to this but was wondering what everybody else thinks. Any input is appreciated, thx!

would a closet grow running a stanely blower, air pump, and a 400 hps cause any suspicion with the electricity po-po?

Rootfingers, the increase can be offset by making the rest of the residence more efficient. If you can change all incandescent lights to CFL, unplug anything that is not in use, and eliminate devices that use a lot of power (space heaters, clothes dryers, etc) you could possibly reduce your consumption to an inconspicuous rate.

The rate you're paying will magnify any increases, so check your numbers before you
begin your cycle. Here is a useful calculator: http://www.super-grow.biz/Electricity.jsp

The most important thing is to pay on time. This is what will keep you in the clear.

Aqua Parot: short answer: no.

Thanks che for the good advice. I will simply cut out my personal electrical usage to near 0 at first and bring it up from just the grow over a few months time. Even though my usage is minimal (apx 15-20% of bill) it will still help create a more realistic usage history. And I guess thats really what I am looking to do here, my bill comes with a bar graph of usage history that I like to see start slowly, peek in the summer, then go back down in winter. Should look like a little mound.

Electric is cheap here (Mr. Burns style) and I'll run at non-peak times so no worries on cost. And I have an excellent payment history so thats good.

Parot, I'd think you could run that in a one b-room apt without worries.

I think the quickest answer to your question is no, ramping up is not feasible unless you can wait a year. If you look at your bill, you'll see a comparison chart of usage from last year at this month and this year at this month (on mine at least). So ramping up to where your house is using that kind of electricity where doesn't show a deviation is really no different than just starting up.

Besides, people get to overworked about the electricity usage. If you're at the point where guys with badges are getting your meter info, you've already fucked up somewhere earlier in the security chain.

like the man said, pay the bill.

Ok, you guys are putting me at ease a bit. Security is super tight around these parts which is why I get paranoid about the electricity. It is the only possible give away to my whole operation really and I am always working on galvanizing my weak link. Anyway, thanks for the advice everyone and stay tuned for a thread about this build.
