Raised,bumpy...gritty looking/feeling leafs, no discoloration...very worried

I have done what I can on my own (researched extensively this IC site) I am a newer grower, adopted 7 plants that needed an immediate home (long story) Blue Dream, 707, Super Silver Haze, Bubblegum, PP, and two Hindu Kush (The Hindu kush are having the problem....so far!)

Background: The clones all came to me approx. 3-4wks. old, within a "shady" history...they had battled spidermites, showed some significant damage to leaves, no webbing, and I worked very hard to clear/control the mites...........growth has been very good........plants since I got them (12/07/09)have come around, improved, thrived, however 7-10 days ago I noticed "strange" tiny raised prickly looking bumps (i mean needle point tiny to sharp pencil tip tiny raised bumps) they are hard to describe. These bumps cover mostly the entire leaf border/edges I noticed them on the first Hindu kush, this plant was odd looking when I first saw it, it is a regenerated (previously flowered) clone, the guy said he forgot to clone it, flowered it, then chopped down to one stem and brought it back. It had very dark, thick leaves, woody stem, etc. anyway, I saw these strange leaves first at the tops, new growth then older it seems now that most of the plant has this type of leaf now. Now the other Hindu kush plant is showing the exact same problem. I tried to answer all the questions from the sticky MynameStitch thread. I can't find any pics anywhere that look what like I've got on my hands......I have spent hours and hours trying to self-diagnose these plants.

This is my first post on IC (other than answering one) so forgive me in advance if I havn't done something right.....(when using this forum) I have never attached pics so I hope it works, let me know. It is very difficult to capture the bumpy, gritty looking leaves, the light has to hit just right in the photo. There is nothing on the leaves.....this is just a malformation, without discoloration. I will try to get more photos tonight/tommorow hopefully someone can see something with the one shot that I got.

HYDROPONICS/Aero Ponics/Coco/Soiless/
How long has this problem been going on?
7-10 DAYS
Are you growing in a PVC grow tent? (example: Hydrohut or any other non brand tents)
NO
What system are you running? (DWC? Ebb flow? Aero? Water Farm? Flood Tables? and so on...)
SELF WATER/FEED GRAVITY SYSTEM (AUTOPOTS W/SMARTVALVLE TECHNOLOGY)
What STRAIN are you growing?
HINDU KUSH
What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?)
CLONE (ONE PLANT IS A REGENERATED PREVIOUSLY FLOWERED CLONE)
What is the age of your plants?
THE REGEN CLONE IS UNKNOWN AGE, THE OTHER HINDU KUSH IS 5-6 WKS OLD
How long have they been in there mixture they are in now?(coco, soiless etc..)
60% COCO / 40% LARGE CHUNK PERLITE (THEY CAME TO ME IN COCO W/FINE PERLITE 50/50 MIX IN COCO-TEK POTS. I PUT THEM IN MY 2.5 GAL. AUTOPOT WITH MY COCO MIX ON 12/08/09 I DID NOT REMOVE THE COCO-TEK POTS AS THEY ARE MEANT TO TRANSPLANT WITH THESE IN PLACE
How tall are the plants?
ABOUT 24 INCHES OR SO
What PHASE are the plants in? (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?
THEY ARE 4 DAYS INTO FLOWER (KEEP IN MIND PROBLEM STARTED WAY BEFORE THEY WENT TO FLOWER)
What Technique are you using?
THESE ARE A HAND ME DOWN FROM A BUDDY THAT WAS LEAVING TOWN ON SHORT NOTICE THEY HAD BEEN VEGGING 3WKS, I PREFER TO VEG LONGER SO I DECIDED TO CONTINUE TO VEG ANOTHER 2-3WKS. NO PARTICULAR "TECHNIQUE" (NOTE: THEY CAME FROM A GROWER USING SOG)
What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.)
COCO AND PERLITE MIX 60/40
What is the Water temperature?
65-70 DEGREES F
What color are your roots? White? Brown? Are your roots slimy?
CANNOT SEE ROOTS IN THIS TYPE SYSTEM (UNKNOWN ROOT CONDITION)
What Nutrient's are you using?(If growing soiless)
PRODUCT LINE: "LIQUID EARTH" I SHIPPED IT FROM NEW YORK (FUTUREGARDEN CO.) I BELEIVE THIS BRAND IS EXCLUSIVE TO FUTURE GARDEN, THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY, KEITH ROBERTO (AUTHOR OF HOW TO HYDROPONICS) DEVELOPED THIS NUTRIENT LINE FOR HIS COMPANY IS MY UNDERSTANDING. IT IS MULTI-PART, "VIGOR", "GROW" AND "BLOOM" ARE THE PRIMARY, I WAS SOLD A SUPPLEMENT, CALLED "ORGANIC ACTIVATOR" THAT IS USED IN ALL PHASES.
FOR VEG YOU USE "VIGOR" AND "GROW" AND FOR FLOWER USE "VIGOR" WITH "BLOOM"
How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
I HAVE USED THE LIQUID EARTH SINCE I RECEIVED THESE PLANTS, I GRADUALLY INCREASED STRENGTH TO AID IN TOLERANCE. THEY HAVE BEEN TOLERATING PPM STRENGTH OF 600-700 TO DATE, THE MIX IS ONE PART VIGOR AND TWO PART OF GROW...........I HAVE NOT TRANSITIONED THEM TO THE "BLOOM" PRODUCT YET.
How often are you feeding? (If using soiless)
PLANTS FEED ON THEIR OWN, THE AUTOPOT WORKS WITH GRAVITY...THE RESEVOIR SITS HIGHER THAN THE POTS, A "SMARTVALVE" CONTROLS THE FLOW OF NUTRIENT INTO THE TRAYS, IT IS ACTUALLY QUITE SIMPLE WITH NO PUMPS, NO TIMERS, NO RECIRCULATION. AS THE PLANT ABSORBS THE WATER(NUTE MIX) THE TRAY BECOMES DRY FOR A LITTLE WHILE (10-30MIN) THEN THE VALVLE OPENS AND THE TRAY REFILLS (I WILL INCLUDE PICS OF THE SYSTEM, JUST INCASE THOSE HELPING ME HAVN'T SEEN IT) IT WAS DEVELOPED IN AUSTRALIA
How often are you giving nutrients? (If using soiless)
SEE ABOVE
If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?
NO
What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)
AS MENTIONED ABOVE....."VIGOR" GOES INTO WATER, THEN ADD "GROW" THEN ADD "ORGANIC ACTIVATOR" (MIXING BETWEEN OF COURSE)
What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using?
600-700 PPM (I USE THE BEST HANNA MONITOR)
What is the pH of the "Tank"?
5.8 TO 6.0 (THE MIX IS VERY STABLE, I MIX FRESH SOLUTION EVERY FEW DAYS, (4-5 GAL) AT A TIME, THE PH IS ALMOST ALWAYS 6.2 AFTER I ADD THE NUTRIENTS TO MY BOTTLED/PURIFIED WATER (THAT STARTS AROUND 7.0) SO I PH DOWN TO USUALLY 6.0..............I HAVE CHECKED THE RES. MANY TIMES AND THE PH STAYS STABLE (DUE TO NO RECIRC OF SOLUTION)
Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equiptment?
YES-VERY SURE
When was your last watering?
N/A - SEE ABOVE
What is your water temps?
THIS IS A REPEAT QUESTION, 65-68 (NO HIGHER THAN 70)
When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional)
HAVEN'T CHANGED YET (STILL ON VEG NUTES)
How often do you clean your system: example: Flush out water replace with clean water and nutrients?
EVERY TIME I MIX SOLUTION, NO RES WATER/NUTES STAY AROUND LONGER THAN 3-4 DAYS
What size bulb are you using?
1000W HORTILUX METAL HALIDE BLUE FOR VEG (THE LAST THREE WEEKS) JUST PUT TO FLOWER ROOM (4 DAYS AGO) AND USING THE EYE HORTILUX SUPER 1000W (30% MORE BLUE)
What is the distance to the canopy?
3 FT.
What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)?
HAVE HAD SOME FLUCTUATION WITH THIS DUE TO A LITTLE WHACKY WEATHER IN San Diego,Ca (TYPICAL IS 45-65%)
What is the canopy temperature?
71-72 DEGREES F, HAS BEEN AS LOW AS 67 AND AS HIGH AS 81
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range)
LIGHTS ON....68 TO 75 / LIGHTS OFF....67 TO 73
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)
AIR FLOW VERY GOOD, I RUN A VORTEX FAN 450CFM, I USE A SPEED ADJUSTER FROM LOW TO HIGH DEPENDING ON DAY/NIGHT THE ROOM IS 6'x 5'x 7' I ALSO RUN OSCILATING FAN
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?
I HAVE NOT TURNED ON CO2 YET, SO PASSIVE AIR INTAKE AND EXHAUST IS FROM THE VORTEX FAN WITH FILTER ON IT. I HAVE FAN ON 24/7, I HAVE HAD COLD ISSUES DUE TO MY FRESH AIR IS COMING FROM OUTSIDE AND TEMPS HAVE FALLEN CONSISTENTLY TO 40-45 DEGREES F DURING THE NIGHT (WHEN MY LIGHTS ARE ON) SO I HEAT THE AIR COMING INTO ONE ROOM, THEN THE AIR PASSES THRU TO THE PLANT ROOM (THE HEATER IS NOT IN THE PLANT ROOM) THIS GROW SET-UP IS IN ITS OWN SMALL ROOM (A LAUNDRY ROOM BUILT ADJACENT TO OUR HOME) WE BUILT THE PLANT ROOM INSIDE THIS LARGER LAUNDRY ROOM, TO BE ABLE TO SEAL IT FOR CO2)
Is the fan blowing directly at plants?
OSILATING FAN IS LIGHTLY MOVING TOP THIRD OF CANOPY
Is your water HARD or SOFT?
I USE BOTTLED GLACIER H20, THAT IS RO W/PH OF 7.0
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?
BOTTLED
Are you using water from a water softener?
NO
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched
YES IT WAS PRUNED (I TOOK CLONES FROM THE PRUNE) IT WAS READIED FOR FLOWER THIS OCCURED ON 12/28/09 HOWEVER MY PROBLEM EXISTED PRIOR TO THIS ACTION
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When?
YES- THESE PLANTS CAME TO ME WITH A MILD SPIDER MITE INFESTATION, NO WEBING, HOWEVER VISIBLE LEAF DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE, THEY HAD BEEN TREATED W/PYRETHRIN, NEEM AND I THINK THATS IT. I HAVE HAD BABIED THEM, STARTING WITH SPRAY WASHING WITH 7.0PH H20, HAD CLEANING EVERY LEAF ON THE PLANT EVERY 3 DAYS OR SO WHEN THEY FIRST ARRIVED (3 WKS. AGO) I ONLY VERY LIGHTLY SPRAYED THEM W/PYRETHRIN ONCE EVERY 4-5 DAYS. VERY LIGHT HOWEVER. MITES HAVE BEEN WELL UNDER CONTROL, I SPOT LESS THAN 10 MITES OR SO EVERY TIME I CHECK PLANT. I AM CONSIDERING USING SOME METHODS I HAVE READ ABOUT ON IC (VERY INTERESTED IN CO2 FOR THIS, HOWEVER I CAN'T GET DEFINITIVE ANSWER FROM IC ABOUT ITS SAFETY/EFFICTIVENESS
Are plant's infected with pest's
SPIDER MITES......HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED

More pics of weird bumpy leaf edges......

More pics of weird bumpy leaf edges......

It is very difficult to capture these tiny raised bumps, I got a few more pics......you can kinda see them. I had a guy come by this morning who has 12 yrs. grow experience and he had never seen this before. I looked at the under side of the leaves and the edges looked like if you had taken a fine tipped pencil and pushed the leaf from under without breaking thru. creating tiny pointy bumps on the surface (note edges only) Also, some of the bumps seem like resin dots...........I dunno, bring out the experts...please!!

Thanks to olddog for giving it a go.......close, but I don't think they are wrinkled, just dotted with tiny bumps, some leaves are a little dry.

Sorry i'm no pro but, those look rather nice to me, maybe the bumps come naturally with the seed?

Wish my plants looked that good.Think you may be worrying over nothing. Just ride it out for a while. Good luck.

Your plants look healthy. Worst case, I see a little tip burn/curl. Try giving a weaker nute solution and see what happens.

Yes Walrus, I agree....the overnute "claw" curl started just 4-5 days ago, I didn't talk about it because the "bumps" started nearly 2 wks. ago now......so the overnute is unrelated. Gosh, wish I could get better pics...........i'm gonna keep trying. thanks for stopping by, makes me feel better that people care enough to help out!!

Hi Libby, thanks for the imput......possible on the genetics, however I called the original "owner" and he had not seen it before, and he had flowered this particular plant (regenerated post flower) I am gonna take everyones advice and "ride it out" hope its not a contagious virus however...........then im screwed because I have some phenomenol Sour D. blowing up in the same room..........be bumed if I seen this on them!! anyway thanks again!!

The leaves on my plants have developed a dry gritty feeling before. I think it was caused by the soap I mixed with the Neem oil. Either I mixed it too strong or I sprayed too often. The leaves stayed green but were always dry, a little bumpy and brittle. The new growth looked fine and the plants did fine.

Since your leaves look pretty good in your pictures my GUESS would be that your leaves were mildly effected by Neem oil, soap, or Pyrethrin.

If you look at my thread, I have a similar problem with my leaves.
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=150380

They feel like they've lost the waxy coating healthy leaves have. Not sure what caused it though.

Did you have a fan blowing directly at the leaves?

Where they too close to anything emitting IR/UV/heat? Perhaps an HID bulb or ballast?

Did you spray/wipe them with anything?

How's the humidity?

Anyway, your plants look fine.

I am wondering how your plants came out

I am wondering how your plants came out

My leaves look real similar and I'm wondering if your grow was affected. Or if you determined what was doing that.

My only guess from what you explain is called edema. Edema is caused by over watering. With my crappie phone I can't see your pictures very well. I hope that helps
