R/O experience? looking for advice

hello icmag.

i haven't checked the ppm of my current water but the previous owner said its real bad and by the looks of the tub and shower he was correct.

iv got enough money into this next set up that i believe i need a R/O filter but am very ignorant on this topic. i need to get one asap and am very ignorant on the topic. im hoping that someone here can help me out.

im going to need at least 150 gallons a day. if i had the option i would have it produce 300 gallons a day. from what i read most of these are slow as f*ck.

il try to get the ppm of my well water tomorrow and post it here.

can anyone recommend a decent r/o filter at a reasonable price? is there one at a lowes/home depot?

can someone explain the basics of these systems to me please?

i would appreciate any info on r/o that you believe to be beneficial.

they are rated in GPD (gallons per day)

get a grow specific one, i recommend 400gpd.. brand doesn't matter. make sure it has the big pre-filters as well (sometimes called dechlorinators, one is carbon and the other is sediment.)

a 400gpd producing 150gpd will last longer than a 200gpd before filter change is required.

tap water in, <10ppm RO out via 1/4" hardline + float valve in your res.

One good source with a pretty good selection and service is Marine Depot. Good Luck. -granger

Like whatthe said, get one that is a lot larger than what you need in a day. Filters will last longer, plus they are rated at optimum pressure and temperature so you wi likely get less than the rated flow. If you water is really bad, make sure to keep up on your pre-filters to keep your RO membrane flowing. Theme ranges are the expensive part to replace.

That was supposed to say RO membranes are the expensive part to replace. You will need a new one every so many gallons depending on what you go with.

thanks for the advice. i forgot to bring my ppm meter so didnt get that reading. il try to get that soon.

a 400gdp sounds great but damn. the once im seeing are over $800. thats a lot to throw on a filter and id rather not if i didnt need to.

1. you know how long these r/o units and filters last usually?

right away im only going to need to fill my unit, and res. thats like 50 to 65 gallons. then a cloner thats 30 to 45 gallons. thats over estimating. but eventually i might triple or fuck quadruple that size.

2. can i hook up 2 r/0200 stealths to one water inline if the one isnt enough down the road. thats 400gdp and almost half the price if i can run two units.

3. does anyone have anyone know of any 400gdp that are recomended or or affordable?

Hey jfart take a look at Growonix. I have there 600 gx series. really sweet system, and can get you to a 1:1 ratio.

$300 growonix 400gpd. i've owned this and it worked perfectly. i used 300gpd and it lasted 6 months til ppms raised up to 40ppm.

you want a grow one, not a commercial RO system.

yes you can use 2x 200gpd on 1 water supply to accomplish the same goal. most 400gpd units just use 2 200gpd membranes and a larger pre-filter.

if you have the space, i highly recommend an RO storage tank. RO keeps 100 or 200gal always full and you fill your feed tanks from that as needed.

Gotta get a good one with a floatvalve !!! this is what people have told me so that your ro water rez is always filled and will shut off on its own so that your not wasting water know what I mean ? they wont be slow as shit when they top off by themselves when your not there cause when you go to the spot boom !

wtf I swear there was only half that trashbin with ro water yesterday how is it full

Oh yea forgot I got that float valve :D

Yes float valves are your best friend....provided they are working! My dumbass had a flood once because I keep a submersible pump/hose/wand in my tank for watering. As the water filled, the water wand leaned on the float switch so it could not float up and shut off. So do the obvious thing and check to make sure nothing will leak and lift your float valve to double check operation before leaving the house.
