quick question reguarding my ballasts/lights

so i have 8 600 watt balasts (digital) and 16 lamps (aircooled).. i have a prof. flip flop box set up for 8 ballasts and 16 lights.. well i'm not going to use all my wattage in one given area this next grow.. 4 balasts.. maybe 5.. maybe 6.. my question is, can i plug in spliter after the balast, then hook up 2 timers.. one to each side and then have a lamp pluged into each and give the lamps like 5-10 minutes in between ecah one?? kinda making my own flip flop? otherwise i'll be wasting a couple hoods $$$..

so 600watt balast split to two timers so in essense it will be powering 2 timers and a lamp.. that just sounds bad right?? cause i mean, will it fuck with the 600 watts going to one lamp if its powering a small timer?? hmm.. any help would be great.. thanks

It sounds like you'll be fine to me buddy if what I am understanding what I am reading correctly. Having a timer shouldn't fuck anything up. It sounds like you want the lights to come on seperately after the flop? What kind of timers are you using, because they timers would be off unless they are battery powered and constantly run until they "flip" on.

sounds like you want to install a timer post flip flop? in the same circuit as the lamp? i wouldnt touch that one myself... wait for some pros advice though :wink:

let me try and clearify(sp??).. what i meant was having (1) 600 watt ballasts plugged straight into wall power.. then AFTER the balast, install a Y splitter attaching 2 digital timers.. 1 to each split THEN 1 lamp to each timer.. have one timer run from 12:05pm to 11:55pm and the other timer to turn on at 12:05AM and off at 11:55AM so as to not cross paths.. it would make my own flip flop box right?? because i will be using my actual flip flop box at a seperate location but want to utilize my ballasts and double amount of hoods lol.. cause i'll have 2-4 extra ballasts and 4-8 extra hoods get it?

i can use regular timers buti have digitals and like them better, but yeah..

i think if you could do it with timers, we wouldnt need these relays. not positively sure man, but if by some wierd chance that the timers got in sync with the other then you would have two hot bulbs on one ballast. not sure but that cant be good? with the flip flop there is only one timer, should it go bad there would be no probs.

You're not making any sense! Do Not Try whatever it is you are talking about.




Timers can NOT be used AS Flip Flops!

Timers can NOT be wired into a ballast circuit on the secondary side of the Transformer!

You'll be switching to ballast output to the lamps with a timer, wouldn't recommend that. You'll need a dpdt relay that can handle the voltage spike. If you have some extra ballasts, why not get another flip-box built for 4 ballasts. I build custom flips.....

PS, I hope you're not using one of the older model Power Equalizer flips, they're accidents waiting to happen.

all the way at the bottom.. the deluxe model.. 8 lights.. i think the price was horendes but he was in high times with/for this product and i didn't feel to worried to go with it =/
