Quick question about air cooled reflectors...

I'm about to order up some stuff, with regards to the air cooled hoods I see there is the option of 4", 6", and 8" vents...I'm gonna run 3 x 1k. Is there any reason not to go 8"? All I can guess is that the downsides are that you have to deal with larger exhaust hole coming out your room and a couple extra bucks per hood? Am I missing something? Any reason to go less than 8"? I would think the 8" will be most efficiant at moving warm air out.

As long as you have a matching fan, 8" is the way to go. I recently got a 8" exhaust system linked to 8" cooled hoods. From what I've read, the 8" system can cool up to 4 1000w's. In your case, nice to have room for expansion i.e. another 1000w-er.

Go with the 8 inch. I remember when a while back when they didn't offer an 8 inch, only 4 and 6. It is so much better at cooling and like J. Greenstein said, it's good to have for expansion if needed. I don't think they cost any different than the others unless stores are trying to liquidate old stock because no one else wants the 4\s and 6's as much as before.

Go big, you can down size if you desire. Going smaller may not work out, then your stuck.

MrMortakis- Inline fans pull better than they push air. As long as your ducting run isn't extremely long or bending figure eights around the world, a 6" fan will work for either scenario.

Definitely go with the larger diameter. They will cool off a lot faster and easier. You could even attach a 10" with a reducer and get a beautiful pull.
