Quick auto germination question

Have been having problems germinating my autos. The first NL I tried in a shot glass full of water overnight followed by papertowels for 2 days and now has been planted i prewatered party cup seed starter soil for 2 days and no sign of growth. The soil now appears to be drying out. Do I water it a bit or wait? How long should I wait?#
The 2nd (critical) did not even sink overnight in a shot glass nor did it show any signs of change in a paper towel for 2-3days so I planted it 24 hours ago in prewatered plant pot seed starter soil.
Once agin how long should I be waiting for signs of growth and should I water it at all if it appears to be drying out?

I would pretty much say give or take you should see some action in 3-5 days depending on temps and wetness.

I would dig one or two seeds out and see whats up. Use a toothpick or something like that and carefully pull the soil back being careful you do not break off a taproot. If you see a taproot poking out that has a brownish tip I would say that one has a poor chance of going any further. If you see this how wet is the soil ?

If you don't see taproots poking out is the seed hard or mushy ? If its mushy its toast if it is hard. You could try cracking it in your teeth or needlenose pliers or scoff it with a match striking pad or the like and replant it.

After 5 days of nothing I dug the seed up. It was still hard with no taproot. It had what looked like it could be the beginnings of a hint of a taproot forming below the surface of the seed so I have popped it back into a moist paper towel and covered it with a bowl and put in a drawer for a day or two to see if it finally pops.
On reflection the soil I planted it in was too compact and did not hold moisture well enough for it to have time to poke a taproot out.
Have I done the right thing? I woiuld have scuffed it but when I saw what could be the taproot below the surface it made me want to treat it a bit more gently.

i just throw them in dirt under a CFL and constantly water..... not the best way but my germ. rate has been roughly 90% also u can buy cheap jiffy kits at walmart for $5-$10 and it comes with a humidity dome?

For pooping seeds I use a paper towel folded in 4 placed in a CD case, the taproots develop in 24 hr's and usually go straight down from the CD cases restricitive width.

I then dump them into a nice organic dirt and water heavily and usually don't have to water for another 5 days.
I also use a "cough and cold hot mist vaporiser" it mists out some steam and boost my RH to like 60% and makes the air hotter and moister wich the plants seem to love.

Rooter plugs work too as well as passive wick type hydro setups.

At this stage, attempting to scuff is your call wether it's appropriate, but it may be a feasible idea.
