I am going to be building a greenhouse so that I can have organic food year around. I have looked at a lot of pictures, and read a lot of posts, but I have not seen anything like I want to do. This will be purely to grow food in. I want an 8' x 12' permanant greenhouse with electricity, and heat for the winter. I am wanting to build it out of wood framing with metal sheeting on the outside except for the parts of the roof and wall that face south. I will be putting clear plastic panels on those. I am also going to be installing two windows on the north side along with a glass door on the west side. On the east side will be a thermostaticaly controlled exhaust fan for when the temps start to get to hot. My main concerns are what kind of wood can I use for the frame. I figured regular studs would decay quickly from moisture. I was thinking pressure treated, but I have heard bad things about the chemicals in them as far as greenhouses go. The next thing is it will be built on a concrete pad that already exists. So do I raise it up and insulate the floor, or do I use the concrete as my base? The other last thing is insulating. If I do raise the base, and insulate what kind of insulation would be best. I was thinking about using 2 sheets of 1.5" foam for a total of 3" in the walls and the floor if I need to raise it. Well after writing all of this it seems like I had more questions than I thought. I have never grown anything in a greenhouse so this is all new to me. I am however experienced with gardens, and "indoor growing." Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
