question regarding setup: 150w cab

i plan on making a cabinet and the interior dimensions (grow area) are 24.5" (H) x 20.25" (W) x 21"(D). N-e ways i plan on using a 150w hps. My sq. footage is 2.9. My only concern is if the height is enough for growing? I plan on doing a scrog in a SWC bucket. Thanks.

You may be pushing it. Check out the NGB thread (big pics start on pg 3)

If you have a 6" tub with 6" of space under the screen and 6" devoted to lamp space that leaves 6.5" for bud growth.

Consider a reverse/inverse ScROG where there is little to no space between res and screen. Rather than grow under the screen, tie to the top of the screen. Very popular in speaker and PC grows. Now you'd have 11"-12" of bud space. Perhaps a cool tube or home made reflector could reclaim another 2" at the top.

Another consideration is the vertical circular scrog where the lamp is suspended vertically in the middle of a "tube" of buds. There would be a few inches of pure veg at the bottom as it coils around the screen but, you'd get about 16"-18" of bud space.

if i were to do a vertical circular scrog:

1) how far does the light have to be away from the tops of the plants?

2) what should my diameter of my screen be?

3) how big usually are 150w hps bulbs? (diameter)

I thought I could find a link but ... no go. Please excuse lame illo

In a circular setup, the lamp lives inside the grow rather than above. The screen is a "pipe" or "tube". Veg growth wraps around the outside of the screen, flowers are allowed inside. With a 150, you'll want about 4" between buds and lamp (maybe more). The 150 is about 3" in diameter. A 12"-16" diameter screen would probably do.

Freezerboy - is that your cab? Nice looking setup!!! It never ceases to amaze me the amount of ingenuity that goes into some micro-grows!!

That's the world famous NGB Cab©®™. It and the CMH thread cause me throw out everything but my cab and hood and start over from scratch.

Here's mine ...

Still a good looking cab - and one bodacious rootball!!!!

freezerboy, thanks for the illustration. I just love it (ms paint?) lolz

i have another few questions if u dont mind:

1) if i have 16"-18" of height for bud growth, should i veg the plants 1/3 of the screen or 1/2 den flip to 12/12? or should i just got 12/12 once the clones are rooted?

2) i have read that the fans arent build to point directly upwards (they will wear out fast), with that being said, how do i provide the effective air movement around the cab (inside the circular scrog) w/o the buds getting ne bud rot (mold)?

3) how many plants should i use in a circular scrog with 16"-18" diameter of screen?

Mr Bubbles, I think that box is a little too small for a 150w HPS, not without a great design that it. It can be done and I've seen it done around here before. Search for a PC case that someone fit a HPS in.

I've never done a circular. There were shots from a Czechoslovakian grow but I can't seem to find them.

When to flip is subject to strain and cab. My Sativa took a minimum of 17 weeks in 12/12 so I flipped first and added ScROG second. An 8 week Indica should be vegged under the screen till its1/3 to 2/3 full and then the pre-flower stretch caused by the 12/12 flip will fill the remaining screen.

Never heard the fan direction thing. I don't use an interior fan but, I'm in a relatively dry area. I just kept underscreen growth as spread out as possible. Once buds showed they were allowed above the screen and underscreen growth was removed.

This grow I tried some experiments including allowing underscreen growth to remain throughout the grow. BAD IDEA! Don't do it! I don't know that it was mold down there but it was ugly, gray, sallow, pallid ... undead in appearance. Like zombie buds. yuck!

mr. bubbles ... i never heard that about fans pointing upwards either; regardless, i always take advantage of the fact that hot air rises by placing my exhaust fan up as high as possible. in fact, if i ever get around to a serious re-working of my cabinet, i will place it directly above the bulb, in the top of the cabinet. if you want any air movement over and above that, you can always hang 1 or 2 little 12v fans and have them pointing at the plants. just be aware that the turbulence caused by this may interfere with air flow enough to raise temps a few degrees.
