Question on cord length

I was wondering if it's ok to make the cord from the ballast to the reflector longer? :chin: Say about 15 feet or more? How long is some of you guys' cord?

i've no idea how long you can make a ballast coed but i know the longest i've seen advertised is 25 feet. 15 feet seems to be the norm on the grow light kits sold at bghydro.

If it's an HPS, then you have to worry about the ignitor not being able to light the bulb with longer cords.

I believe an HPS will still light if the ignitor is not working, but reduces the life of the bulb. I could be wrong so if so please someone let me know. The reason I say this is that is what I have heard in the past, and also I have a dual ballast which has a switch on it to change from HPS to MH. In the past I forgot to switch from MH back to HPS, and the HPS bulb still lite. I think the switch only turns on and off the ignitor, but that I could be wrong with also. So, basically, I'm not sure of either, so really i'm asking. God I hope that makes sense? I think I drank too much tonight.
