Hello... brand spankin new here.....

trying to decide between 2 radiant 8 vented hoods or 2 lrg adjustawings.... 1000 w each.

I originaly designed room for adjustawings... air flow and what not.. Now, the lads who i was getting knowledge from said that it would get too hot, go with vented hoods...which, if used, will change layout and what not...

some specs... 15.5ft x 6ft wide x 6ft hgt... not sealed, 6in intake hole with mushroom dust cap, no a/c in room, room in basement with central air, eastern great lakes region, I have 435cfm hurricane for exhaust(am changing to 8in morelikely regardless of hood choice...)......
thanks for any replies....

crap.... new guy forgot the bloody question....

based on some simple stats.. would it get too hot with open 1000w adjusta wings? 8in hurricane with filter for exhaust... 6in intake with mushroom.... room size..?? thanks..

I personally would rather have the adjusts wings. Then hoods, cool the room not the lights.

my very first plan when designing was to run 2 600w adjusta wings.. intake basement air to room, exhaust back to basement, run dehyumidifier in room, run central a/c in house and basement, basement is usually cool anyway.. hardly over 71.., hand water drain to waste,...

but then was told 600 would be a waste.. run 1000... open hoods will make room too hot.....

Not really pertinent to your question, but you will need to do something with your intake and exhaust sizing. If you are running a passive intake, the rule of thumb is that your intake needs to be double the area of the exhaust. Mountain Air filters recommends 6x the area!

I agree that the problem will not be the size of the light as much as your amount of ventilation. I would have 3 of those 6" air intakes. I don't think the 435cfm will do much for cooling 2Kw but I have been wrong before. I would get an 8" HO can fan combo or equivalent with the adjustawings and just air cool the room. The adjustawings are cheaper than air cooled hoods and therefore offsetting the price of the can fan combo some. I would also keep the 435 for air cooling hoods later if you plan on adding CO2 in the future. Now if you already bought the 435 cfm fan and are stuck with it, I would recommend getting either two 600w bulbs or one Kw bulb and see how the temperatures work for you before adding another Kw of power usage in the room.

My 8" HO can fan combo easily keeps my 3Kw garden under eighty degrees when run continuously. I have two 10" holes in a wall for passive intakes. Hope this helps!

wow... thank you so much for insight regarding intake/exhaust.... actually, that kinda makes it alittle easier to put in another hole in wall for intake as to location, each ends and one in middle...... and do something regarding 6in vs 8in fan...

could you explain the term "air cool the room..."? does that mean have a a/c unit in room..?
