Question for the experts

Last winter I had a lots of trouble with hermies and I was wondering if the orange glow off my electric heater could cause it. I have no light leaks and only have this problem in the winter and its starting to get cooler nights here. Thanks for any help!

I dont think that would cause a bunch of hermies. That problem is most likely in the genetics. I use a 50 dollar electric oil heater and I just drape a piece of duct tape over the light....

I'm with JJScorpio on this one...the tiny amount of light from a heater shouldn't be causing them to hermie...at worst it might keep them from flowering, but that's pretty doubtful.

What genetics are you using?

The orange glow from the heater coils could be considered a light leak if he was in 12/12.

i agree w/MTF and JJ i open my flower cab every day 2 hr before lights on to foliar feed no hermi's on my end by doing this. plants outside arent allways in total darkness either ya have city street lights full moon stars :chin:

Right-on MJ.Pothead. If flowering sensimilla was only achieved in "total" darkness then very few, if any outdoor grows would be seedless. That being said, i do agree that if an indoor grow can be kept in absolute darkness it makes it easier to diagnose sexing/hermie/seed concerns. so, do what makes you feel confident bro'.
Peace!

That is your answer right there I believe. I have heard of a large percentage of bagseed becomimg hermaphrodite because the seeds are sometimes from a hermie. I have strains that I swear it wouldnt matter what you did, they wouldnt go hermie. I would get some good solid genetics and see the outcome....
