Well, not exactly what you are looking for, but it's something..
I have the TD-100x, and it's whisper quiet. I have a DIY carbon scrubber, and minimal insulation (actually, none, but the fan is tucked neatly inside my cab). I have a 4 (&6) inch vortex, and without a speed controller, both vortexs are LOUD (they also push a shitload of air).
Comparison..
I'm using the 6 right now. The vortex is wrapped in Dynamat, then water heater insulation. Tucked away inside a closed closet, with a scrubber, and slowed down to %75. It's easily 6 x louder than my S&P.
Like I said, not the comparison you were looking for, but close..
I'm in the same boat as Stryder. I wouldn't call my 100x whisper quiet but, it's livable and workable. The 4" Elicent (about 5dB quieter than the Vortex) was a screamer that, quadruple silenced, could be heard at my neighbors door across the street and had me in constant fear.
Thanks for stopping by Stryder and Freezerboy. Thanks for the link freezer, but I have already read through it, actually it's what made me want to look into switching out my vortex fans.
While looking on S&P's site I noticed that they said the td150 pushes out 218cfm's @ 1700 RPM's on lowspeed. I found out the 4 inch vortex spins at 2500 RPM, so I know that the S&P fan itself will probably be quieter than the vortex since its having to spin slower to push out more air, but I just wanted to double check with any td150 owners out there before I bite the bullet and buy one.
never owned a vortex.. but I do own the td 100 and its gotta be the quietest fan I have ever owned.. lol I got it tucked away in a box in the closet.. and you hear my ceiling fan more than you do it.. but then again its no 150.... but I'm guessing if it is anything like the 100 all you will really hear is airflow.. and the price was what made it for me..
