Question concerning ceramic heating

I have a closet sized room that is sealed for a/c & future CO2.

Dark cycle is getting too cold during the day, but i only need to raise to temperature 10-15 degrees.

Traditional space heaters are over sized & over kill. So I'm looking at small solutions.

This is a ceramic heat lamp that is used to heat pet reptiles. It uses long wave IR radiation. Will this thing emit any light spectra that will prevent or alter flowering? or is it safe?

P.S. It would be at the top of the grow space, a good 6 feet away from the plants, & the energy produced is in the 1000nm range.

Not sure if the heat lamp you showed will warm up 10-15 degrees ?

I use a ceramic heater to warm a closet I use to germ my beans like this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lasko-75420...805?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231957c4ed

you can buy a cheap ceramic heater with a blower for around twenty dollars at discount stores.

it will have a thermostat too, not a terribly accurate one, but way better than not having one unless you plan to use a remote thermostat with that thing.

Yea, i'm aware.. If the IR isn't appropriate I have a 200 watt desk heater & external thermostat as plan B. I'm already running a lot on the circuit, so I'd like to avoid adding any more if i can. There is a light fixture already in place that I set up to use a green bulb (that was before I knew that green flo's won't cut it).

If the IR doesn't mess with the plants, I'll put a light sensor on an appropriately sized ceramic bulb in place of the green bulb. No extra wiring, & i won't have to use valuable real estate.

how big is your room? im in a small space 3x6x7 and use a dri air2000. look it up. 130 watts and works excellent for small spaces. b4 the space was 58 now its 68(dark). this is right up your alley if the space isnt too big.

134.something cubic feet. floor dimentions are 55" x 44". It's insulated like hell and sealed air tight except around the sliding door.

Found the answer.

Plant can see IR, and uses it as a way to judge darkness. It also has some interactions with flowering hormones & the hormones responsible for stretch.

I don't know what that translates to, but I don't want to find out.
Small space heater it is.

Dinix I have a grow going in a unheated garage. Lows at night are 20s. Im using this heater to keep things at 70 during lights out. I picked this one because it has an actual temp setting not just a dial. I set it at 70 it stays 70. Temps drops about 3 degrees and it kicks back on. Its runs for about 1 minute every 20 minutes. Im sets on my hood with a small fan blowing behind it. I didnt wanna set it down with the plants because it does get hot. I found mine at lowes for 35.00. Hope you get something to work. Peace LL

Too bad -as IR can benefit indoor grows. Some ppl. spend nice sums of money to get good IR LED lights to work as "flower initiator".

Right wavelength for that is 730nm and ordinary bulbs which produce that produce also other wavelengths... that's why 730nm LED probably is best for that.
But it might be waste of money if ordinary and a lot cheaper bulbs would do the trick too.

Grow tests have shown benefits of the flower initiator lights but i have not seen any tests where oldschool IR bulbs and 730nm LED's would be compared.

Even normal incandescent lamp produces IR (most of their watts are IR beems) but as they also light they probably wouldn't work as "flower initiators" very well. At least not without some kind of filter which would took visible light out of the equation.

Couple sources:

The Flower Initiator @ led4growth.com

Ed Rosenthals MJ growers handbook:
http://mjgrowers.com/book_what_exper2.htm

I would at least try those ceramic heaters.
Flower initiators are supposed to be lit just few minutes at the time when other lights go off... BUT if space needed more heat at nights, i guess that it should just be tested how they would react if IR is o whole night.

That wavelength which causes harm to flowering at night time by disrupting rest phase is 660nm RED.

So i would guess that plants would continue flowering but whether they do stretch too much or not, i don't know.

Ceramics get pretty hot. I've used an oil filled radiator type for a closet in a fairly cold attic space. Gentle even heat and less fire danger, if you have the room.
