It depends how much space you have to work with and if the plants you are going to be working with tend to be on the stretchy side vs. the short/compact side.
If you are growing out clones of a plant you have already worked with, then you know what you have to do. If it is a stretchy bitch then yeah, top and train her down. If she stays short then no need to tie her down.
I usually top then when I lst. It may slow the plant down a bit but it works well. I usually pinch the top at about the 6th node. Then I begin to tie down and let the lower branches start growing. I keep my plants in bonsai mode so this method works great. It keeps the plant small but with alot of tops. I got a 6 inch bonsai mum right now with about 16 tops growing on her. I'm going to be flowering her in about a month or so.
most people do one or the other...L.S.T. is used most times to reduce stress to the plant like topping can cause....i've cut a male in half before and shocked into a female....I prefer to use L.S.T. myself...nothing like a hot chick bent over and tied up...stay safe
Low Stress Training= L.S.T bending plants over and tying them to divert auxins to lower branches to increase prodution...gives you a way to control the plants growth without topping which could stress the plant..stay safe
