Question about the mix packs

I am thinking of trying either the feminized or the regular 'mix' pack as a cheap way of trying at least a few different strains. Will the quality of females be the same with the regular seeds as it will with the feminized seeds if grown in an excellent environment? The reason I ask is because a while ago someone (can't remember who) over on UK420 said that one of the staff working for ACE (maybe the owner??) said at some point when talking about one of their strains that both the feminzed and the regular seeds used similar parents and produced similar results when comparing the females from the feminized seed to the females from the regular seed, but that the feminized seed resulted in a slightly 'dirtier' high. I might have the facts slightly wrong, but it's got me wondering whether it might be a safer bet going with the regular seed instead? Or maybe I'm worrying over nothing and should just go for the feminized seed so that if I find a really good plant that I love and want to use it for a breeding or hacking project at some point in the future I could just buy the regular seeds and grow it out to find some decent males within that strain.

Now to the main question I wanted to ask - if were to grow out all the seeds and get multiple starins, do you guys think the strains are so unique that if I were to post photos of each plant during the late flowering period people would be able to identify each plant according to its strain with confidence? If this is possible it would be great to know since I might want to keep it as a mum and in this case knowing the strain would be potentially useful.

Thanks, you guys have been quite helpful up until now :)

i popped 15 femmed mix a couple months ago 13 found their way out of the soil and are flowering now very interesting mix of dif stuff from big ol hazes to foot tall indicas. all of em seem pretty healthy no nanners about a month in and definitely a few that have grabbed my attention smell and bud wise.

i don't know what you mean more importantly for the name, if it's good who cares what it's called mine are named 41 - 55 lol

Hello Cola Candy,

The standard version and fem version of the same strain should be similar (closest to description as possible) but not exactly the same. To produce a standard version we use 'traditional' reproductions, that is female/s pollinated by male/s. To produce the fem version we reverse a a selected female to pollinate other selected female/s. So even when the hybrid contains same lines, the standard and fem version can not be exactly the same cos at least one of the parental plants would be different in each version.

Saying that, standard seeds or fem seeds are not better or worst, it just reflects the sex format of the seeds but says nothing about the quality. Sometimes is easier to breed fem hybrids cos there are no males involved in the reproduction (and male testing takes lot of time) while you can easily judge females in a sinsemilla cycle.

Anyway, if growers send us pics of their ace mix plants, we always help them to identify the genetics or strains. Hope it helps!

Hi konopenko,

Of course, we still have the ace mix standard and fem in stock.

The standard version contains nepalese jam, chinese hybrids and tikal hybrids.

The fem version contains malawi, uzbeki, chinese and tikal/guawi hybrids.

We have also a new Tropical Mix for this 2012 season (but i think this is not suitable for your climate). It's a mix of Haze, Haze/Thai and Central American Sativas (mostly guatemala mixes) at a quite cheap price. Will be listed in our new website very soon! :)

hmm, haa...

..in case you pop in this weekend........

i ordered a reg mix pack (16 seeds? good price..my kind of price) and heard back that the bank is out but expected to be restocked within a few days, so my order with them is standing, but iwll be filled presumably by your most recent lot.

i hadn't seen this thread previously.. i'm more interested in sativas, so when i read that the reg mix is nep jam, chinese and tikal hybrids i thought oh no! i'm more looking for.. viet black, orient express, panama kinda stuff.....

......then i see another thread (mayan's ace mix at 50 https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=218101&page=2) growing out a mix pack where the 'chinese hybrid' is described as orient express influenced...

your thoughts please. i'm a poor boy. this is the last seed purchase i'm going to make this year. even $40 is a lot of dosh for me (mayan knows what i do for money, it's not rewarding..)

is your idea of 'chinese hybrids' including the SE asia strains and i'll find a sat or two in there, or should i have them change my order to the viet black+thai i dream of?

thanks much :)

Hello waveguide,

ACE Mix is a great choice to start to explore our genetics at a very affordable price. You can find high yielding sativa/indica hybrids, compact early flowering sativa dominant plants for indoor growing, big sativa structured plants for outdoor growing in warm climates etc ....
