Question about intake and exhaust fans

Hello

I am just in the process of setting up a flowering room in my house. This is the first time I have done a grow properly i.e mylar walls, exhaust fans, temp controller etc

I seem to remember reading a while ago that your exhaust fan should be at the top of growroom and the intake at the bottom....I know this seems abit wierd as why would it matter? But is it to do with hotter air being at the top of the growroom?

I would like to have my intake at the top of the room in the left corner as I have a loft hole cut there already and in the loft is a vent in the wall leading straight out to fresh air which is good and I would like to extract up my chimney is this going to be ok?

Thanks for any advice

because you are pushing the heat out with the cool air intake before it is hitting the plants when from bottom to top...yes you can vent out your chimney just make sure you use a carbon scrubber...peace

Thanks for the reply brainthor...

So should I be intaking air through my chimney, as it is lower down than my loft entrance how much difference do you think this will make plants environment.....and don't worry I ll use a carbon scrubber...cheers

i would be in-taking airconditioned air but i have no idea what climate your in...as long as you can keep temps and humidity in control than your growroom works...peace

Thats what I thought aswell...
Is it ok to be drawing fresh air in from the chimney then? I don't see why not....its a bit dirty but thats it!!

Interesting. All that soot could act as a natural odor scrubber if it was the exhaust. On an intake, it might make your room dusty or it might kill mold spores...

i'm not sure why you want to intake from your chimney . why not intake just from outside the grow box/room ? on the other hand, intaking from the chimney would automatically take care of any light leaks from the intake side . but wouldnt you be intaking some nasty fumes from whatever fuel has been burned ? a chimney seems better suited for exhaust.

I I thought it would be better to intake air from outside the house as it will be cooler and fresher than the air in the house......is that a stupid thing to think?

ok, what you want to do is intake from the outside fresh air, but simply run a duct down to near the floor of your room. Extract from near the ceiling. And yea, a carbon filter is a very good idea.

no its a good idea to intake fresh air outside, more c02. i wouldnt intake from chimney, but exhaust would be great. good luck.

So it is ok if I have the extracting fan at the top of the room then lead ducting down to the chimney...I know this seems like a stupid question, but I m sure I read before that fans lose some of there power/efficiency with long ducting.....probably chatting shit but I m convinced I read that before...who knows?
Any comments welcome on this...

you cant have the best of both worlds. yes ducting and turns reduce fan effiecency. I heard every turn reduces it by half.

Either intake from the bottom or intake from the top and duct it to the bottom of the room. Or intake from the top and just leave it be.

Either way I would make sure you have a fan in the room circulating air around

also I ll be drawing air in from the loft through a hole in the ceiling should I have ducting going to the bottom of the grow room??
Thanks inadvance for any advice..

I ll def have a circulating fan! I m more concerned abouthe actual "freshness" of the air and the best way to distribute it...I think I m worrying about it abit much!!! thanks for the input
