Question about I-power 1000 watt hos

I was wondering roughly about how much my electric bill will increase when I start running my I power digital electronic 1k hps ballast. I haven’t lit a light since 2014 and I never even used an electronic ballast before. Any estimations?

When i used one in my 5 x 5 growtent it was about $100 extra a month. Not that bad at all for the end result. You just have to find somewhere to put all that heat and man do they pump it out

i have '4' 1000 mh/hps switchable's from a friend who does not grow any longer - i have a small 4x3.5ft tent and i normally grow with '2' 315's and only in the winter vu the heat - last feb in the dead of the winter, about 20f outside i mounted the 1k at the top of the tent, put a therm. on the floor and turned it on - within 5mins the temp was 105f, and thats with a fan blowing cold air from the outside -

the '2' 315's cost me about 150bucks a month, but we have high elect costs... about 23cents a kwh....

in my experience, the '2' 315's are way short of a 1000 watter in quantity, and more important quality...

1000 watt HPS are outdated because of the heat and light waste. If you do a 1000 watt hps you will need to run a ac too so about $100 to $$150 a month extra. I used to stand behind 1000HPS as being the best, but not anymore because you can match the same light output with only 300 watts using LEDs. All those High-Intensity Discharge lights should all be replaced with lower-watt LEDs. New construction and major cities are switching from bulbs to diodes and you should too. 😎

Who's pulling 2 pounds from a 300w LED? I've yet to see anyone truly match a 1k with leds even with the larger 6-700w leds

On your electric bill theyll show you what your paying per kWh. Then multiply that number by 12(flower) or 18(veg) then multiply that number by 30(average month). Give you a good ball park figure, then have to factor in fans. Nothing beats a 1k hps in the winter, can heat up your house for free. My new 3kw room will be pumping directly into my central air system an keeping my house nice an warm

No not with 300 watts but I got over 2 lbs using two 400-true watt LEDs easily and without all the heat. 😎

I use to think the same thing when it comes to 1000 Hps, that they were the only true way to get lbs out of a grow. I thought that for the last 25 years but now I don't think that anymore. The new 600 watt LED grow lights are matching the HPS 1000-watt results easily.

The one thing that brought me to LEDs is when I used 1000 watts HPS lights, the plugs in the wall got real hot. So hot that I got worried that I would burn down the grow. I was trying to balance wattage with amp-age and was running too close to maxing out my breakers causing stress on my electric grid. When I switched to LEDs the wall plugs ran cool. Plus no red flags with the excess electricity from the electric company. Don't get me wrong I love 1000 HPS lights and have used them for a long time but they are old news now. 😎

You just said 300w an now your saying 600w.... Not trying to sound like a dick but you just doubled the watts from your first answer....

An your wall plugs getting hot is because you probably didn't use 12gau wire with 20amp breaker for each 1k. When running 1kw I wire up my own outlets, 1 per light, an a separate one for all the fans.

I'm not against LED, but for me to swap out my 1kw hps for led units they will need to be capable of the same yeild in the same area. The day there are affordable Led units that can produce 2+ pounds in a 4x4-5x5 grow area I'll switch, with the assumption that the LED will use half the watts.

Even if 800w of led matches a 1kw hps that's not much of a savings in electric, and will be a large investment to replace my 3 1kw hps. Plus in the winter I'd probably have to run a heater. And no free heating for my house. I see leds being the new closet growers dream. They are getting closer to larger scale use but not quite there yet

That's it, but I'm going to reword it, as hearing it from two angles might be reassuring.

A unit of electric might cost you 20 cents, and you will use one every hour.
A unit is in fact 1000w for 1 hour. That is how they bill us.

I realise the lamp is 1000w and the light unit as a whole will be higher. Plus you will have fans and things. If we call it 1000w though, the math is easy.

A unit might be 20 cents. Using 1 unit an hour (1000 for an hour) you use $2.40 per day running 12 hours. Or $4 running 20 hours.
You should add 10% to this, as for all the little bits like fans. Remember a light might be on 12 hours, but all the other bits might be on 24 hours. Realistically, you might want to add 15%.
If you use a 1000w heater during lights out, then you have your 20 cents + 15% per hour, every hour of the day. About $5.75 a day at full draw.

A Dehumidifier might take 2-300w putting 25% on your bill. Try your best to exhaust outside, so you don't need such a device.

The Internet is filled with examples of 2g+/watt on the LED's (not saying it's better smoke)
If this was true on a larger level people would be pulling 3lbs each light with these 700w leds....

Do you live in a closet or something, practically the entire indoor commercial industry is running LED
Probably part of why the large scale commercial bud is trash.

Maybe I should have worded it differently, people that grow top shelf bud for resale👍
