I take it you mean the shell of the seed is moving up the rising stem? Well, if the plant is growing this is not a bad thing. Less is more with small seedlings, let it be for a while and keep it moist.
you can take it off to prevent a mutated set or two of leaves, or stress the plant. Also, the inside of the seed which the leaves break through molds easily. I take mine off only if needed (3 or 4 days still on)
Just make sure that what you're seeing isn't the taproot...I recently had a seed germ and start sprouting very quickly. I was pleased as hell until I looked a little closer and saw it was actually the taproot instead of the 2 cotyledons that sprout before the first set of "true"leaves (the ones that have the serrated edges and actually look like pot leaves).
It was growing upside-down!!
Well, I managed to carefully right it, but it didn't end up making it anyway.....probably due to the peat pots of indeterminate age that I foolishly started things in.
Switched to 3oz. plastic cups with holes in bottoms and things are much better.
In my mind, this is the most treacherous part of the "grow show", just trying to get things going and growing, esp. if you're starting from seeds.
What light are you using? Temps ok? Watering can be tricky, too. I'm rooting for ya! (and hopefully your plants will be, too!)
