question about flipboxes

Im curious if the powerbox brand flipboxes can be run with less ballast.

Im thinking of getting the 12 light 6 ballast powerbox and only running 4 ballast for a total of 8 lights . Do these flipboxes run like this or do i have to have all 6 ballast for it to work ?

You can run only 4 ballasts on that unit; however, it is much cheaper to build your own.

Make sure to use quality parts however (such as a quality relay-- Google Grainger part number 5X847) if you decide to go this route. I am in the process of building a flip box (2 ballasts, 4 lights) and it is not difficult whatsoever and much cheaper than the Powerbox Flip Box. I have read on the net where some believe that Powerbox cuts corners, though I cannot remember exactly what they, Powerbox, do/don't do correctly.

Here's a pic of mine so far (I'm waiting on my lamp cords to arrive in the mail in order to complete the project):

I was kinda in a hurry and the only model they have in my city was the FLIPBOX LSM-12 is 6 ballast, 12 light FLIPBOX that allows you to run 12 lights from 6 ballasts.
However i only want to run 4 ballast and eight lights form this unit is that possible i would liek to upgrade to 12 lights in a few months ? So can i Buy and 12 light fliper and use it as an 8 light fliper?

powerbox look good makes it all tie together.. DIY ahve the DIY look. Here is what I made to use 1 ballest 2 lights ..

This is the light control box I made. The above relay is inside. I need to make a relay box with just a bunch of relays wired up in a separate box so im to code.
theres 240v for the ballaests and 120v for other stuff like scrubber, fans

Avoid Horti-Control flipboxes btw, they are garbage, I burned up 3 in as many months.

To answer your initial question... YES you can use a LSM - 12 to power 8 lights instead of 12.

No ballast plugged into the flip, nothing to flip.

I'm going to be using a LSM-12 or LSM-20 for 18 instead of 20.
