Question about feedings with organic nutes

I haven't started growing just yet (starting very soon), but I've decided to go all organic with my grows. I guess I get it from my dad, he's been a hardcore organic (fruit/vegetable) gardener for longer than I've been alive so I've grown up around it and have always thought organic was the way to go. I'd ask him for advice, but he'd probably want to know what I'm growing :biglaugh:

I read through the Organics for Beginners thread and first off, BurnOne thanks for writing that up, lots of great info in there! After reading through it, I've still got a couple questions for the organic experts out there.

I've decided for my first grow to go with the soiless mix #1 and fert recipe #1 from the thread due to availability of the ingredients in each. My question is about subsequent feedings; the nute recipe #1 says to mix it in with the soil, but no details were given on what to use for future feedings. If I use that combo of growing medium and nute recipe, what should I be putting in the water that I use to water the plants (other than molasses)? I know I could use one of the other recipes to the guano veg/flowering teas mentioned in the thread, but I haven't been able to find guano locally (small town) and was wondering if there is a simpler recipe to use for veg/flowering.

Also, should I just put the nutes in water and water the plant normally or should I give it some water/nute normally as well as foliar feedings with the same solution?

Beuller?

I normally don't like to up my own threads, but someone has got to be able to help me here...is this just a stupid question?

Lucius-
Just use the LC's mix alone for seedlings. Set some aside and mix the blood/bone/kelp into the mix you are going to use to veg/flower in. By the time the mix is ready, (about two weeks) you'll be ready to transplant into the nute rich mix.

what burn1 said.

for starting my plants i always use unamended peat/perlite mix and add a little bit of EWC.

then they get transplanted into the stronger stuff after that.

I appreciate the response, however I'm still not sure on the answers to the questions I had. I had planned on using a tame mix for the seedlings while getting my nute rich soil composting and ready while the seedlings were growing - all information I read in that Organics for Beginners thread (awesome writeup btw).

I'm just the type of person that likes to have everything planned out way ahead of time so that I know and understand the whole process before I begin - that way I can minimize the mistakes I make and maximize the quality of my first grow. What I really want to know is if more nutes are needed in the subsequent waterings of the plants once they are transplanted into the composting soil, or if the soil will have all the nutes they need for the entirety of their growth (I didn't think that was likely).

Since this topic wasn't specifically addressed in the faq, I just wanted to know what I should plan on doing in the future so that I have everything ready right when I need it.

Anyways, thanks for the responses so far, does anyone have any comments on those specific issues?

Always good to be prepared. I tried to be, but still find that I'm not prepared enough, but live and learn. :)

The mix will likely need to be supplemented during later stages of veg/flowering (Varies depending on strain, conditions, etc...)

Common wisdom seems to be feeding with teas regularly throughout growth, though unless the plants are showing deficiencies most tend to keep it at a tea every other watering or even less often.

Much like you I live in an area where I can't get access to a lot of specialized items (And for stealth, am avoiding ordering online). So far I've done fairly well with a tea made from fish emulsion (Picked up at Wal-Mart, Alaska Fish Ferts), molasses (Blackstrap) and some worm castings (Also sourced from Wal-Mart, though how long it'll be there? Who knows...). Occasionally a pinch of epsom salts for luck.

I've been playing with adding other things into the tea, but that's the base I've used with some (moderate) success.

Thanks for the responses guys; I guess what I'll do is make the soil mix like I had planned and then use nute teas once the plants begin to need extra nutes. I suppose I can just make a trip to a bigger city to get all the ingredients I need for the veg and flowering teas recommended in the sticky

Lucius man planning, when it comes to a grow, will only get you so far..you probably already know that.
Strain, veg time, speed of growth and quality of soil mix will be your 4 factors here.
On the whole that mix is bubbled water only and no additional nutes needed for veg.
As for flowering well it COULD get you through but for the extra effort of a a high P and K guano with kelp tea every 2nd or 3rd watering will get you noticeably better result.
Pick up high P guano and Maxicrop or liquid kelp, those are all you need essentially with LC's mix.

What's the setup and grow style L?

Glad to her you are passing the organic torch around, pass it to the left :joint:

Ahh yes the ongoing "Organics to feed or not to feed"question.Well its all an opinion and a how much stuff did I add to my soil thing. Some of us enjoy mixing twenty seven different liquid nutes and measuring and checking and all that, some dont. You could very easily add most everything the plant needs to the soil mix and give the plantsnothing but water from day 1 to bud.Although Ill tell you from experience that is a damn hard thing to acheive. You must understand all the elements in the feeds you are adding there strengths and periods of release. How much N how long? How much P and when will it get it.Thats why my advice is get some organic goodies add em to the mix but dont go nuts dont really follow any recipe just use common sense and use the less is more theory. Then get yerself some premium liquid bottled organic nutes{Ill be nice and not reccomend a brand name and turn this into a flame war}and do the half what is says on the label dealy.Learn to read the plant and what it needs, are the leaves yellowing too early are the too dark green? Are they wilty looking or standing at attention? All these things youll figure out in time and they will all let you know when and what to give them.As for any one recipe, make yer own so what you aint got this and that from the list replace em with somthing different dont be afraid to try new things.Just cus it didnt work for me doesnt mean it wont kick ass and take names for you.Just my two cents, good luck. With this forum as a tool Im sure youll do fine.Peace Gromerr Pott!!!

How much of these nutes do I mix with the water?
And how much water do I use to mix with these nutes?

Same thing above this.
How do I measure the nutes and how much water to mix the nutes with?

TheOneWill; I don't really have any experience growing so I won't try to offer any advice myself, however, the answers to your questions are discussed in the Organics For Beginners thread that is stickied at the top of the forum. I would suggest you read through that thread as there is alot of good information there and it will probably answer all of your questions
