Question about electric service upgrade and commercial pricing

I'm lucky. I have an electrician that will basically charge me material cost for anything I want done. Which is great considering I'm barely "handy" as it is.

If I want 200amp service upgraded to 300 or 400, anybody have a guesstimate what to expect as far as permits go? I'll be asking my electric company this question... once I get an idea of the answer for this next question.

I live in a fairly residential area. A street south of me is a fairly commercial zone, two streets north is another commercial zone. I'm wondering what kind of luck I'd have in asking/telling the electric co. that I want to open a shop, commercial business, or "legal grow" operation at an owned home.

If I tell the electric co. that I'm opening a woodworking shop, does that result in some sort of inspections? (bad, considering there is no woodworking shop). If I tell them about a legal grow operation, is that, like I'm assuming, just a bad idea all around?

I do have an LLC opened in my name that's not doing anything. I'm not sure if that'd be a good option for paying a commercial electric bill or would, again, result in some kind of inspections.

As implied above, I'm looking into upgrading to 300 or 400 amp service and wouldn't mind paying a commercial rate. I just didn't want to throw out the wrong kind of business if it could be helped :)

EDIT: I fully realize the answers to any/all of these questions may depend on my location. I'll chime back in a couple days or so with the results.

no no don't tell them anything. They do not need to know what you need the power for. It will be cheaper to add another 200a instead of upgrading the panel to 400. Adding 200a sub panel is what I would do. You should post this in the grow room design and equipment forum. Rives is great help...
