question about design & scrog

i have approx. 1 sq. feet. of growing area. The only problem wit my microgrow is that my height might be too low, it measures 16.5" (H) but with the resevior + the lights i only have 8" in growing height. My plan is to use a scrog to maximize my height. However, i have just read the cannbis grow bible it it says "The screen is set above the plant's medium. This height varies fomr 8" to 24" depending on the light type you are using." So dat leave me with approx. no space to grow. =[ according to this book. What do u guys think? can i lst the very bottom of the stem to the res. with string or something & have the screen 1.25"(H) above the resevior leaving me with 6.8"(H) for my canopy.

Two lights will be on a reflector painted flat white or some high heat white paint. These two will be warmwhite (red) mounted horizontally on the very top of my grow room and a vertical light in the very back with a reflector (like a light in the middle of the garden) will be daylight or coolwhite.
With the size limitations i have i think i'll go 12/12 from seed.

You can put the screen right on top of the rez and then tie to the top of the screen. Someone here posted on this referring to it as a reverse ScROG.

I accidentally "discovered" LST in the wild when my plant was outgrowing my 6 foot fence. I bent her over and staked the tip to the ground.

Having space under screen or LST is nice but, you don't need it.

I'm NOT a CFL guy but, you may want to reverse your 2:1 warm/cool ratio. The more blue, the less stretch. 12/12 from the start is a good plan. Anyway you can do it with sexed clones?

hell yeah freezerboy, thanks for the advice. dat reverse scrog is like microRU scrog. This is my first grow in a pc, i want to learn and experience plant evolution. It looks like u have alot of exp. Do u know what strains will do good. Im pretty sure indica dom and pure indicas will do good. But im in the flavor of sativas. I know this aint the place to ask but designing my space for the strain will mostly benefit the plant. Im lookin at arjan's haze #3 good yeilder & stays compact. any other that stay compact and mostly sativa?

also, for my hydro medium i was thinking of using neo collars (those noddles for swimming pools eg. those floating devices) or should i use a combination of a netpod, rockwool, & hydroton?

A sativa in that space would be a real trick. I managed to keep my T*Haze x Skunk#1 under 22" but much of the grow was curled over like candy canes and pigtails to keep them out of the lights.



After 17 weeks of 12/12 it was still stretching out at harvest time. Here's an upside down shot of an upside down ScROG. The PVC frame is 29" check it against the colas on the right and in the back.



NOT trying to talk you out of anything. Just trying to give you a heads up on what may happen. Hopefully, smaller lights will provide lower growth rates. Watch out for high temps which cause stretch. Note flowering times on seeds you buy. I can't say that an 8 week plant will grow but half as large as a 17 week plant but, it's probably going to help.
