Question about BHO in Canna Candy

2 cups turbinado sugar
½ tsp sea salt
2 cups heavy cream
1 ¾ cups light corn syrup
½ cup potent marijuana butter
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp dark rum
2 cups pecan pieces.

1 In a large saucepan over med-hi heat, bring a mixture of the sugar, salt, 1 cup of the cream, corn syrup, and butter to a boil.(remember, he only did half of this) Boil slowly for 10 minutes, stirring constantly, not scraping the bottom of the pan.(here I omit the part where he says you can put unused buds in this mixture during the 10 minutes…fuck that
2 Dribble in the remaining cream continuing to stir. Add the cream slowly enough not to disturb the boiling.
3 Continue to cook until a little of the mixture, when plopped into cold water and rolled between the thumb and index finger, forms a firm but not hard ball
4When the firm ball stage is reached, remove from the heat and stir in vanilla. Pour out onto a buttered cookie sheet with sides and let cool. Cut into bite size pieces and wrap individually in wax paper.

I want to make this recipe and use some BHO that I made instead of canna butter. I was thinking I could just dissolve the bho into the Rum and add it to the recipe that way. I have not decarbed the BHO. Will it decarb during the 20 plus minutes of cooking time? Do I need to decarb before adding to the alcohol? Can I dissolve in the rum then de carb?

Thanks, not too experienced with medibles, and just want to make this as a treat for the ol' lady.

I suggest decarboxylating the oil before mixing for better quality control, then you can physically watch it happen when the oil is by itself, I follow the graph provided by jump at 252F for 27minutes. Add the high proof rum/oil mixture towards the end of the process to avoid turning activated thc into cbn, since its already been decarboxylated. I also suggest washing/winterizing your bho with ethanol to remove residual butane, waxes, lipids and fats.

I personally love a decarboxylated qwet or absolute with 1:1 ratio of organic coconut oil in a 00 capsule, very easy to make consistent doses and easy to consume and healthy with the organic coconut oil.

No cooking it for 20 min WILL NOT DECARB!! I promise you! you need to decarb your oil separately then add to the candy when hot

I think midwsetHIGH's response is probably the best, easiest method. Consistant dose. The other thing I would add is that it has been brought up about absorbtion issues if not mixed with coconut oil, etc. As this is key to the absorbtion of your oil. Let us know your dosage calcs. I have ~42g of old, dark bubble hash that I cleaned-up with Everclear and decarbed it @ 252F for ~20 min. until done.

Hmm, i cook w bho all the time and have brownies others affectionately named 'blackout'. Interesting how the 'cooking WILL NOT DECARB!!!'' thing is working out for me. While ido agree with midwest about adding it after the fact for an edible, how are you going to add bho to a sucker or hard candy after the fact?

It's heat and time. Approximately 250F for 15-20 minutes (depending on the amount of decarb already done by drying/aging)

You're going to need to measure the heat of the candy while you mix THOROUGHLY, like you would when you added the BHO.

The key will be to get the time to add it down right (so when the candy is at around 100F, the decarb process is already complete) and to completely mix it into the candy.

The complete mixing will be a process of finding out how to pour it in/on so that you can quickly mix it throughout the entire candy mass evenly.

Please be sure to post your results. :)

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:
