Question about a fan controller

I have a cabinet (2.5w x 1.5d x 3.5h) with a 4" RVK, a coolshade and a 250hps. I've had 4 successful grows so far, but in my new place I needed to buy a fan controller because at full speed it's too loud.

Basically, my question is... if the fan even at half speed is pushing enough air to exchange all of the air in the cab, will increasing the speed make my temps go down more? I came home today and the temps were at 80 (fan was running halfway down) I turned it to full speed and an hour later its the same temps. So I guess I answered my question, but Im not sure if there are other variables playing in.

The air is sucked in and released into the same room, so I guess if the fan is pushing enough air, the only thing I can do to lower my temps in the cab is lower the temps in my room?

Stoned rambling yay!

Hello all,

Yup. You will need to lower the temps the room the cab is in.

Also, check and see if you have a large enough inlet and outlet.

If you could get your air from the floor would be best.

You could also go with a larger fan.

What are the room temps when the cab temps are 80*.

At the moment I have 2, 4" intake holes and 1, 3" intake hole (which I was thinking of puttin an 80mm pc fan on. The RVK is 4" so I have 1 4" exhaust.

To answer bmwboy I guess Im pulling air...

Temps in my room at the time were around 76 or so (yeah I guess it was pretty warm to begin with)

So is my little theory of the fan seed right? Minds_I you started with "yup" so im assuming thats what you were referring to?

its difficult is your temps are in the 76 range even with lights off. it should really be in the 70-72 range lights off and 77-79 range with light on, 80 is acceptable for most strains. If 76 and 80 are the best you can get, choose a strain than is native to the equator, and they thrive in that environment. I guess that you are pulling air from the bottom and venting from the top? If this is the case I say trying using both fans to for exhaust and leave the hole open for intake and go with a passive intake. The same amount of noise, but better results.
