Pyrethrin Photoxic?

Hi all,

I read many threads where people use insecticide with pyrethrins and claim about phototoxic issues.

Many bottles have mixed a horticultural oil, such as parafin oils or organic plant oils such as sesam oil, the oil acts as a synergist.
There are also others bottles without additional oils, but mostly with alcohol such 1-methoxy-2-propanol.

Oils are phototoxic but are much more powerfull with pyrethrins. But this oils mostly will burn the plant (max. 1% oil concentation, more will lead to a heavy burn)

It's quite difficult to get to know which ingrediants are exactly in the bottles.

So can someone confirm pyrtehrin (withou any oils) does burn a plant as well?

And whats the usual procentual dosage of pyrehrine in insecticidial sprays? I found 4ml/L with 1.25% pyrethrins or 0.5ml/L with 8% pyrethrins, so i guess they go all with the same pyrethrine concentration.

Any experts? :)

With a lot of preparations, e.g. Safer's, when a Cannabis plant has Safer's soap on its leaves, it can't breathe.

After Spraying or Dunking, it works best to put the plant somewhere where the light is NOT bright, so it can dry off.

If you put a plant in bright light when it's still got wet soap on its leaves, it's like an athlete being forced to walk/ run up-hill - without being able to breathe.

It wants to start photosynthesis, but the Safer's interferes. Until it dries.

Yes i always dim the lights down to 10% or let them dry in the bathroom :)

I see Safers has three kind of products:
1. Potassium soap ==> I guess no burn with light on. Did you have burned it once?
2. Potassium soap with sulphur ==> Hmmm i assume a burn after some days
3. Potassium soap with pyrethrin ==> I guess no burn

Also here we have the issue with OTHER INGREDIANTS which are unknown hydrocarbons or alcohols? I guess the oil have to be listed as an ingrediant?

No experts here?
I used to work for a boss who said, "An expert is a person who can look at an unmade bed and tell if it had been slept in for love or money." I am not an expert.

Contact the manufacturer and ask them. Pyrethrin, Piperonyl butoxide and Other Ingredients will have petroleum distillates as part of the mix.

Safer's does not contain piperonyl butoxide. Potassium salts of fatty acids is soap. The 'Other Ingredients' is the question to ask of the manufacturer. Soap spray will discolor pistils but usually will not burn leaves. Oil sprays can definitely burn if improperly applied.
